Being a tour guide in the top end,It is my job and obligation to be able to identify wildlife.
I was once scared as sh1t with snakes as I was nearly bitten by a Red belly black as a child.
I have over come my fear as I can now handle the legless, I came face to face with a Coastal Taipan once, it looked like a King Brown but once I put my hand on the back of my neck and the hairs were standing up, I realized it was a Taipan.
I grabbed an 8 foot King brown once, thinking it was a Olive Python, I sh1t for a week, thankfully I was able to let it go without harm to it and myself.
To all that are afraid of the legless, My tip is.
Venomous snakes have between 12 to 14 scales between the belly scale to belly scale, non venomous have small scales, so large scales are venomous and small scales are non venomous.
Remember 98% of snake bites are non venomated bites which means get out of my way, if you stick around for the next one
well you get what you deserve.
99% of bites are when people try to catch or kill them.
Proper
first aid is paramount.
Front page of the NT News today, mother saves 6 year old boy from a king brown bite using proper
first aid.
How many people actually knew that the King Brown is actually a Black Snake?
Cheers Steve.
