Just come back from there on Thursday after being on the island for 8 days. It was as awsome now as it was 15 years ago. They had some rain about a month or 6 weeks ago. It firmed the tracks up for a while but they are drying out now. I don't know if they copped any of the storm that went thru on Tuesday afternoon when we were driving into
Brisbane. The track from Kingfisher to
Eurong is really chopped up as it carries much traffic. Quite a few getting bogged there, more toward the
Eurong end. Most of the tracks are in average condition but quite driveable depending on your vehicle. Watch out for tour buses and the guys who think they own
the beach. What type of car you taking? Crossover vehicles will have their share of trouble but 4WD's will eat it up. My 4Runner did it with ease. We pulled a Suzuki Vitara out at the barge landing at
Inskip Point on the way back. He ended up giving it away and not going over.
Where you staying? My advice would be to see as much as you can, don't take any risks, particularly if traveling alone (1 car), and carry a snatch strap, compressor, and all the other necessities. And a good map or two. And take lots of photos (if you get the time). The last guy I knew of who went there for his honeymoon wrecked his brand new Pajero at Breaksea Spit. He drove out, got stuck and the car got flooded. Bad luck for him.

hey louie thanks for your info was just what i was looking for. were staying at
eurong in the resort there. my rig is a late 96 dualcab triton v6, the 1st of the mk's. i find it quite a capable truck and have had no dramas with it on the soft stuff.im in the middle of replacing an outer axle seal on the rear and came to a screaming holt when i realised i only had the
tools to do half the job! as far as taking risks go, im not the type, not when your by yourself in such a (what i consider to be) remote area. all my recovery gear lives in the truck, come to think of it none of my gear has seen the light of day.... touch wood...
hot backpackers are the last thing on my mind......till i get there. hahaha.
