Hey Guys
,Just contemplating in putting a intercooler somewhere ?in my engine bay or thereabouts for my td42 patrol.I had a look at a GU intercooler and was wondering if this would suffice my needs or is there a better alternative? Thanks in advance!

UPDATE:I have decided from the responses I got that I will be staying with the viscous fan as it seems to be far superior in cooling the engine down as opposed to thermo/electric fans.I have also been told that an oil cooler would be a better way to go?

Till later
See Ya!

He made my i/c for a GU, great craftsman, it is a top mount and I am sure that a GU bonnet scoop will fit a GQ.

Every bit helps.
I would definitely fit an oil cooler- as this reduces heat load on radiator.
I have a big oil cooler on my td42 and it makes a significant difference.

Thanks David for your reply but where abouts did you mount your oil cooler and do you have the dimensions?.

G'day Andrew,
I have bypass filtering and all the oil from the bypass filter goes through a large "auto-transmission" cooler, then dumps back into the sump. I have it fitted behind the grill (as I have no intercooler).
On a mates with an intercooler, we fitted the oil cooler behind the 'roo bar at an angle- the bottom of it is a few inches higher than the bottom of the bar, and if doing serious off road it can be sort of hinged up to horizontal to get it right out of harms way.

With the bypass filtering AND oil cooler, my total sump capacity is increased to about twelve litres, which means the oil capacity is increased about twenty percent which also helps with cooling.
Combine that with "Redline Water wetter", a viscous fan which works properly, high flow thermostat etc and I never have overheating problems now.
PS Did you know the lower percentage of glycol you can use, the better coolant works. Water is a much better coolant than glycol- so if not needed for antifreeze, water (with an inhibitor) is better.
(Water Wetter includes a good inhibitor.)
Have a look at the Redline website.
Cheers
