hi tassie guys,

My family and a friends family are travelling to tassie for three weeks touring and camping march or similar next year. I am on the hunt for some local knowledge.

We are hoping to get some local knowledge of camping sites, tracks medium to hard, that end up somewhere with reason (in other words missus dont want to spend three weeks riding hard core 4wd tracks, but we would get away with driving a track if we get somewhere picturous, historic, something the missus rate (if you get my drift)

dan (my friend accompanying us) and I would also be keen to meet up with some of you locals and maybe do a day or similar trip round a local area.

Any takers for either info or meet up maybe?

Hi Whaley
What sort of camping/touring are you planning? Will you have tents or trailers or whatever? Make sure you bring clothing/gear for all weather conditions. We always camp at Port Arthur on March long weekend and it nearly always rains (that doesn't stop us having a good weekend though). On the other hand March is often the best month (weatherwise) in Tas. The weather can vary a lot in different regions of the state.
We have quite a good book called Off Road Tasmania - 4WD tracks in Tasmania, the author is Chris Boden.
There are plenty of picturesque and historical spots in Tassie. Let us know more details about what you are planning and when you are coming. We may be able to organise a day trip somewhere around Hobart.

The book you speak of is for sale in the ExplorOz shot. Was thinking of buying it. Good to hear it's worth it.

Ex Tassie boy - Although mostly sealled roads, some must do's in Tassie;
1. Huon valley - if you have time, keep going south to Southport
2. Russell Falls
3. Queenstown / Strahan / Zeehan
4. Stanley
5. George Town - Via Batman Bridge
6. Launceston
7. Elephant Pass
8. Coles Bay - Walk to Wineglass Bay
9. Port Arthur - shead a tear
10. Hobart & Mt Wellington

You'll need every minut of the 3 weeks Sooo much beauty at every turn. Take lots of variety of clothing and lots of photos!!
