Has anybody got one of these please as I have bought a second hand one and didnt get the manual.

The reason I want it is because where I want to mount it on my car Its too high to get in the garage by about 80mm

What I need to know is can you remove the spring on the top and if so how is it done as it has no flats to put a spanner on.

I notice it has a braided strap down thru it but presume that is to give continuity to the base.
Any help is appreciated
Thanks

Ho Graham,
I do have full set of manuals for my Codan 9230, although not readily accessible. I can get them if needed. From my experience, the spring is not part of the antenna, but part of the aerial mast. I have 3 replacements of different lengths and they all have the spring on them. They need to be turned with some sort of gripping device. The tunable antenna should just have a threaded section on top which screws up into the spring section.
Bear in mind my model may vary.
Steve
Let me know if you don't resolve it and I will get out the manuals.

Hello Graham, the spring unscrews just like the antenna does, we use a big pair of locking jaw pliers on them.
The other option is to use a antenna like the Barrett uses and use a small adaptor to convert the thread, the Codan uses a large thread and the Barrett uses a standard 5/16 thread and don't use the spring.

Not a problem Graham, if you want one of these flexable antennas give me a yell and I will put you in contact with the people who sell them.

Blue One brought a Codan 9323 of us about 6 months ago and ordered one of these antennas for the 9350 auto tune.

Regards Richard

Graham,
Richard's advice is spot on. The standard Codan whip is shorter and less flexible (Doesn't have the range). The flexible Barrett type are great as even when you bend it at right angles on a track. Bend it back and all is good. The other benefit is when you drive into a servo there is no collateral damage. Have use just the whip for six months and have been able to contact Derby, Perth Alice etc.

Cheers

Phantom is correct. The spring will usually come off by holding it in a vice (carefully) and turning the base by hand.
The manual won't tell you this, from memory.
The spring is not really needed unless you are going to thump trees and servo lights. There is some suggestion that over time that the spring may damage the seal on the end of the 9350, but I haven't seen or heard of one doing this.
Many people use them without the spring, but I have a habit of forgetting its there when getting fuel at the end of a tiring day :))

Footy,
The spring is necessary when using the standard Codan ss whip if you want to use 2020.

Thanks Fellas Just didnt want to stuff by getting onto it with a stilson or similar but now I know will try removing it gently. Thought it must come off as I saw a car with one removed today and the Codan site shows the spring as a seperate part.
Didnt get the earth strap for it either so $57 later have got one. Strange its silver Thought it would probably be a goldy colour. LOL

Tried the waterpump pliers on it and cant shift it
Would a bit of CRC hurt it and does the bottom of the spring have a male or female end on it You know what I mean
Presume the base has a male end fitting into the spring

So a bit of a shot of CRC down from the top of the spring wont hurt the guts of the aerial then
