In Post 50439 I posted comments from the Toyota dealer that were made when I called to book my LC100 in for a recall on the front disc brake rotor retaining bolts.
Well there were no problems at all - when I delivered the vehicle, I commented that I did not want any other work done - I was assured that they would not do anything without my authority.
I asked if the car could be ready at 2pm - at 11am I had a phone call - all finished - when I picked it I was told that they had done the warranty/recall work and repacked the bearings - no charge.

It is so easy to bag dealers, but there are a few honest ones out there. Good to hear.

took my 100s in for the recall work to be done at the local dealer same thing nothing extra to be done got the phone call i was sort of waiting for that the grease in the wheel bearings was very smelly and that the bearings needed repacking urgently they were told to leave as is went with the service manager for his test run or whatever where he told me about the smell ect when we got back noticed no smell took car straight around to my man he pulled
wheels off and guess what nothing wrong no smell nothing the grease he had put in there when he repacked the bearings 5k ago was still there and okay
i paid my man for his time asked the dealerfor a refund nothing doing that is why i didnt buy my car there or have it serviced there neither do a lot of my mates anymore and further more people i know dont work there due to the pressure this sort of behaviour puts on them

You are not alone.
A very good friend had a very similar occurrence with his 100 series (almost identical in fact), and was charged for work which was not necessary AND then lied to about it. I'd love to know who your dealer was...
I wouldn't trust most dealers as far as I could throw them!
That's why I do virtually all my own work, as I then know it's done properly.

It's not only dealers - years ago I took my '88 Jackaroo to the local K-Mart auto for a grease and oil. That vehicle had lots of grease points, so every now and then I would take it in for a high pressure grease squirt.
Got a phone call - "Sir, while on the hoist we note your brakes are so unsafe you can't drive home with it."
I say, I don't care, I'll deal with that another time - which I had done days before when I installed new pads all round.
To add insult to injury, the ba$tards didn't grease the car. Even when I shoved their faces in the direction of the grease nipples which had no
sign of new grease, they insisted they had done it.
It was only when I threatened them with consumer affairs over the attempted brake fraud did they put it back on the hoist and put grease in every place I pointed.
Grrrr....

Will put in a plug for Frankston Toyota......... had
mine there recently for a SINGLE job that I wanted done and they rang me to let me know about the recall and whether I had the time to leave it there a little longer for them to do it for free........no probs.....good service and reasonable price (for the other job..).
But I hear what others are saying about dealers (and other 'shops').... I am always very careful when detailing the work I want done... and I let them know I will be checking when I get it back. So far haven't had much trouble.
Cheers,
Mark
