this might sound silly but we have a roll out awning on our pop top and are looking at adding walls to it. how do the walls attach to the roof?, we have heard of a plastic strip that stops the flapping and also allows the walls to be added to that. is there other ways? we can't work out how anything can join onto the roof part when it is around 4 inches either side shorter than the frame work for it.
hope this doesn't sound to confusing, thanks from chris

This company is in Adelaide. Have a look at the info under Canvas Goods, annexes. We had our walls made by them.

They use a rigid anti flap kit which you then use to attach the walls to the roof. You will also need rope track rivetted to your van wall as well.

Have a look and give them a ring. I think you need to.

Hi gonebush, I will be getting the very thing done to my new poptop van next monday by a mob in Toowoomba by the name of Glenvale Canvas in Gardiner Crt, owners name is Mark. He will be using the metal anti flap kit that has a sail rail to secure the side walls at the top, & if my memory serves me right zips on wall of van slid into sail track. A Zipper sewn to a rope slid into the long side to make it easy to attach the long side wall. Tells me it will save arguments in the caravan park with the BOSS in her dreams..

Regards Ray.

G,day gonebush, i own a canvas fabrication business in Brisbane and do a lot of annex walls for roll out awnings.
You can do it a couple of ways.
1. the cheaper way is using an extendable ridge pole which mounts to the van via a roof rail bracket and out to a hole drilled into the awning drum just under where the awning attaches to the drum, the roof rail bracket and the hole in the drum are set back from the edge of the awning by about 100mm for weather proofing, a pocket is sewn into the wall for the ridge pole to slide into, awning de-flappers or cam buckles are used to hold the the awning down onto the wall, sail track is attached to the van for the wall to attach to.

2. The second is the more expensive way ( but better way ) is by using an anti flap kit which is in aluminium extusion that has a clamping system that attaches to the van via a roof rail bracket and again out to a hole in the drum, but this system has a long clamping section that clamps to the edge of the awning giving maximum weather proofing and has a "C" channel that the wall slides into by a rope edge that is sewn into the top of the wall, this system gives you more room in your annex as it mounts to the edge of your awning.
If you would like any other info, contact me.
Cheers
Dave.

Hi Gone Bush,
Well we recently DID JUST THAT, (add sides to a roll out awning).
Only thing, we have a "Full Van", but the principal is the same.
We used 92% UV protected shade cloth.
Opened the awning, measured size each end, (width & length), careful to get the correct slope on the end pieces to match the slope of the awning. Pop riveted runner tracks to the Van walls, (for insertions of the end walls - turn over with 4mm rope inside) Turn over all sided and stitch (add canvas to bottom turnover for strength add eyelets).
Do one straight "rectangular" section for directly under the awning.
Stitch Velcro to side "tops" to secure around awning arm supports. Shade cloth $130. Velcro $15 Canvas (I used 4 inch curtain binding) $6. concept anuxure 003

If you are going to get someone to do it for you, try Universal Canvas, www.universalcanvas.com.au, at 98 Regency Rd, Ferryden Park.

we were going to get our local canvasser to do it as he does good work, we did take photos of the layout we liked to him but he hasn't had much if anything to do with the rollout awnings and asked us how they attach, this is were our questions come from because we hadn't realy thought of it before. we were told a while ago from Darios about the deflappers that you can attach the walls to and we weren't sure if that was the only way of doing it. looking at what's been written i think we will go with that way as it should serve us better (that would be right we have just purchased the other sort of deflappers). thanks for all the input, any other comments still welcome Chris.
