Hi all
Just wondering what people think of the holden rodeo as an over all ute, power and fuel economy. Im looking at getting a space cab one from about 03 onwards.
Cheers
Peter

Howya going wkendwar?
I have a 2004 duel cab 3.0 TD, and have just recently got back from a 5 week trip from
Melbourne, through the centre along the
Great Central Road, and up to
Broome & onto
Kununurra then back down the Stuart Hwy.
I found that the Rodeo handled the trip exceptionally
well, the ride over the corrugations (with tyre pressure at 20-22 psi) was as smooth as could be expected, the body, bullbar, lights etc all withstood the vibrations just fine with nothing coming loose.
I was really happy with the diesel's economy (approx 7-8 ltrs/100 klms). Power wise it stood the test also, the back
seat was removed & that area was filled with the Waeco, suitcase, bedding & 3 x 20 ltr gerry cans, and the ute area was filled with
camping gear, tool boxes, 2 spare
wheels etc, so I was carrying a bit of weight.
When on the bitumen I could easily cruise at 120 kph with plenty of grunt left to get past road trains when necessary.
So overall, I give the Rodeo TD a big tick, the petrol model will be faster but no where near as good on economy.
Cheers,
John D

My 02 TD crewcab ute gets 8-9 litres / 100 km. Has done several
Cape York /
Weipa trips. Big improvement on these trips was the replacement of standard shockies with Old Man Emus.
Original plastic bumper bar unscrewed itself on one side on first cape trip on the bypass corrugations. Also front number plate used to unscrew from the plastic on the dirt and couldn't get to the back to use nut and bolts without removing bumper. I used to take number plate off once I hit the dirt. Now have a bullbar which fixed both problems and gave me something to hang lights off.
Goes
well round town which is 90% of driving. Everything is a compromise. I like the diesel in the bush when the going gets slow, reminds me of those old oversquare 4cyl petrol Landrovers. Chug along all day at low revs, but with advantage unlike the Rover that it goes
well on the highway.
Overall happy with it. If I lived in the bush I would buy a Cruiser but it would be overkill for present needs.

Hi Peter, I have had an RA Rodeo dual cab diesel 4wd for around two and a half years now. I use it for work and tow a trailer around town. Fuel economy is 10l/100km week in week out. Just borrowed Mum & Dad's 17 foot pop top van and used 15l/100km in some fairly strong head and cross winds. Power is good for most things. It did struggle into the head wind with the van but it would have been very close to gale force. I have found the gearing could be better for highway speeds, at 120km/h you are doing 3000 rpm so fuel consumption increases. Drop that to 90km/h you can get around 9l/100km. Reasonably comfortable, it is a ute, but we travelled 950kms in a day of which I drove 895kms and felt pretty good, not sore or tired. I'm 190cms tall and have plenty of room. Overall they are a great unit. Happy hunting.

Peter,
Have a 12/02 dual cab 3.0 diesel 4wd ute as a daily workhorse.
Lent it to friends to do a Simpson trip last year.
Regardless of load or conditions always returns a smidge under 10l/100km.
Sounds like a bus, sluggish off the mark, but goes and goes. I bought it second hand 18 months ago, and have done 80,000 trouble free kilometres in it. 200,000km clicked over a couple of days ago.
Andrew.

Boss has an 03 model 3.0 TD. Dog of a thing to drive, no power, surges at low revs, motor noisey, very thirsty. Only done 130000 ks. I'm thinking something might be wrong with it, but I'm not game to mention it to him as he has just recently purchased it and thinks it OK. I would have expected it to be similar to my 02 Navara, but its only half as good.
