I have low oil pressure in my 60 series 2H motor after returning from a trip out, i've had it tested with a gauge and it is low. I've been told i got
water in the engine. (with a
snorkel)
It starts up normal but when the engine warms up to normal the temp gauge slowly drops and the car stalls while driving. Also there is a noise at around 2500 Rpm when pressing the clutch in. Also Misfiring at around 4000Rpm. This all started on the way home from a trip to the wombat st
forrest. (I was sitting in a bog hole up to my head lights for about 30 min) the motor was running untill the end when the winch flattened both batterys.
Can i please have your opinion.
Cheers
Nick

My opinion is get a new motor and look after it better than the last one.

So whats the engine oil look like? OK?
Done an oil change yet just in case?
Been over the ignition leads and dizzy and dried them out?
(Did that after pulling it out - right?)
Alternator and charging system OK?
(Maybe not getting a good 12v to the coil).
I know, silly questions. :o) Most probably already done all that.

I drained a little bit of oil, it looks fine. But it is a little watery on top, under the filler cap.

How do you get
water in the oil? Unless it's from the radiator - blown head gasket etc???

I'd change the engine oil and filter for a start. If the old oil is still very black then not much
water has got in if any.
The 2H has a low oil pressure switch which will stop the engine by turning the EDIC motor off and cutting the fuel before it runs for long enough to damage the engine.
You will probably find that there is a partial short in the wiring to the EDIC motor or the oil pressure switch caused by the muddy
water.
Unplug all the wiring connectors to the engine and clean
well.
Misfiring at 4,000 rpm is very high for a 2H which could
well be
the governor cutting the fuel.

You say you were upto your headlights in a bog hole and the batterys went flat so I gather your engine cutout?
If this happened it may have sucked the
water and mud in through the exhaust, this also might explain the miss at 4000rpm as it may have bent a valve as the cylinder or cylinders would have filedl up with
water and stuff.
So you might be lucky and only have to do a head.

Also try a compression test to each cylinder

My HJ60 (which I traded in this year with 753000km on the clock) developed an oil pressure problem after I put in a reconditioned engine at 430000km. Over a period of time the maximum oil pressure that I could get kept on getting lower and lower. Checked crankshaft bearings, top of the engine no luck. Finally accessed the oil pump which lives in an alloy housing at the front of the engine and is driven directly off the crankshaft. Inside the housing there are two gears in a chamber and this chamber is sealed by a plate held in place by a number of screws. These had come loose so the some of the oil was leaking out past the plate instead of being pumped around the engine. Tightened the screws, reassembled everything and oil pressure was back to normal.
Screws were obviously not tightened properly when the engine was assembled and worked their way loose with vibration. Fixing it was not a big job, hardest part was getting the crankshaft pulley off.
Not saying that this is your problem but if everything else checks ok then you may need to look at the oil pump. There is also a pressure regulator built into the oil pump housing so this is the area that you need to look.
Regards,
John
