Howdy all, Fair chance that the Charles clan will be making the big move to
Darwin for a change of job, which brings a million questions to mind, two of them are,
What's the process with changing the and van's rego?
Will my cheap blue WA private plates be useable in the N.T?
Regards, Charlie.

Hi Charlie
You will have 3 months to change your rego over. If you have any left over from WA, you can apply to WA for a partial refund.
You need NT plates, but if you like personalised plates they are cheap (start at about $150 for a set once off price).
Dunno about WA but NT has roadworthy inspections. New cars once only just to check compliance plate and prove ownership. Older that 5 years, need inspection every 2 years. Older than 10 years, needs annual inspection about $38.
Also need to change drivers licence within 3 months, this is free and new NT licence will have same expiry as your current WA one.
If you don't change your rego or your licence, and you have lived in NT for more than 3 months, you are deemed to be unlicenced and your vehicle unregistered. That has potentially severe consequences.
Good luck with your move.
Cheers
John

Hey thanks Jiarna, good info.
How much does rego cost on your 80 series?, how much do those roadworthy inspection thingys cost? and how strict are they? If they are expensive it may just be the reason I need to justify a buying new 4B, damn it!!
I'm not to fussed about personalised plates, but I did received them as a 21st birthday present, from the better half no less, so that makes them nearly 20 years old. Sentimental value really.
Ta, Charlie.

Charlie,
Your driving a Cruiser not a Missan LOL
It cant be that hard to get it roadworthy with all the other Missans on the road up in the NT :))

Jiarna, sorry, I should have read your reply correctly.
$38 for an inspection,
If I had brains I'd be dangerous.
Feeling silly, Charlie.

The roadworthyness is not a problem Kev, but I could tell the missus that we would never get the 100 series past inspection so we had better sell her before we leave and buy a new 200 series when we get up there. Wink, wink, nudge, nudge.
Charlie.

Oh don't worry, I've been thinking about that myself. Hopefully this new job comes off, it'll need to to pay for it.
Fingers crossed, Charlie.

I have taken the plunge and
mine is now being converted. I have added pics to my profile. From what Lyn has told me Al has tacked the rear wall in place.
Cheers Kev

Sir Charles.....Old Chap
By Van you mean the Caravan I take it, I went to WA for 14 months, changed the rego on the car, but left the Caravan as Qld, after all it was not out on the road until I left
Perth, It is now back in Qld , Not sure what I will do about the WA Rego on the car , what do
grey nomads do when you move about a lot , I think I might retain the WA rego and D/Licence because it's cheaper, who knows ...I might go back to Northern WA sometime in the future. So if the Van is not out on the road don't worry about it.
