Selena
Hi to everyone,
Boy I'm glad I found this
forum as everyone seems so knowledgeable. I'm sure I will have a zillion questions to post in the near future, but to start with here is the first few.
I'm leaving my job,
my home & Victoria in the New Year to move to rural QLD (Bundaberg/
Gin Gin) Yeah me!
Just purchased a 1980 Millard Caravan 18ft to see me through my homeless period.
Will be travelling with 1 x Dad, 1 x small Dog, 1 x large Dog & 1 x cat.
Anyway, to my questions.
Would like to take my time on the road and "Free Camp" along the way where possible. (The info supplied here is fantastic by the way - thanks)
Does "Free Camp" mean Caravans allowed or only tent
camping?
Also, upon my arrival to Bundaberg/
Gin Gin area does anyone know where I might be able to reside (in my caravan) for the extended period (1 - 2 months) it might take me to look for a new home, await settlement etc., bearing in mind I have the dogs & cat.
Oh and if anyone would like to offer advise on travelling with pets it would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in anticipation
Selena

Thanks Doug,
A big help. Was a bit concerned travelling with the dogs but doesn't look like I will have any accomodation problems.

Hi Selena,
One response you may get often is to do a search.
This site has over 500 free campsites listed, just click on topics and scratch around, also, there is book that list's most
camp site around OZ and also can be sourced thru this site, called free camps guide or something similar,
well worth the purchase price if travelling extended periods and also list's where pets are allowed

Selena, sounds like this will be quite an adventure for you but please rethink `cat'. If anything is to be lost it will probably be the cat. They are less inclined to come back when you whistle and frankly, feral cats are such an absolute menace. Maybe send it on to a care dog caretaker's or give it to a friend if you can't part with it.

harryopal,
Thanks for your concern.
Leaving the cat behind is not an option I am willing to consider, although I understand your concern with ferals.
I am currently training her to a harness and lead in anticipation of our journey and will take every precaution not to lose her as she is a much loved member of the family.
Regards
Selena

Hi Selena
It might have to be a very short lead, from what I have heard cats do not like car travel all that much. Actually heard quite a few nasty stories of the odd puss or two going wild in a car. Some even suggest if you keep them in the dark they are more cooperative. I have heard of people putting them in a box so they cannot see where they are.
But I think it would be an awful long journey having your puss locked up in a dark box on the
seat next to you, sooooooo, why not duck down to the local Aust
Post Office and express post it. Just think it would be there quicker than ever. Probably be the quickest express post delivery ever once the postie worked out what was in the box as he tried to keep it under control.
I somehow cannot see you taking up the Aust Post option, so if you decide to leave your puss out in the open on the
seat I wish you good luck in your travels.
Hope you have some fun along the way...

Thanks PradOz,
Express Post??
Well I never......! LOL
Everything is under control with the cat. She loves to play in the car whenever I leave doors open and a recent trip to the vet showed that she hates being in the travel box and "screamed" her head off, but when I let her out was very happy to sit at the back of the wagon looking out the window the whole trip home. So I do not envisage any major drama with her.
Although I did have another cat that once in the car tore his way through a pillow case and ricoched off all the windows, so I know what you are saying. Thanks for your input, but as you guessed, I will not take you up on the Express Post. haha :)
I'm having the time of my life already "chatting" to you all online (I don't get out much :) ) so imagine the fun I'll have meeting some of you along the way.
Best Wishes
Selena
