Seems to be alot of talk on the site about generators on
camp sites ,
it seems to me that if your so wired up to all these mod cons why are you in the bush in the first place. I cant see how or why you would really need to use one of these things except maybe to charge your batteries, leave the telly at home and have a chat and a cup of billy tea instead, if yourr in the bush with a hair dryer then your a worry

Read your own post. It did not ask a question, it was a judgemental and condescending statement.
Such statements only serve to promote inflammatory debate.
Hence my response TROLL.

oh sorry, next time I'll remember to insert the question mark at the end of the sentence , it only promotes inflammatory debate if you respond to it in the manner that you have. ttfn

Muddyboy,
I must admit that as a former camper trailer owner I have used my honda 1kva a fair bit. Just to keep the the battery and waeco up to par over a week or so. I think I was always a reasonable user and conscious of fellow campers. I now own a Kedron ATV with solar and honda 2kva as back up and intend to live in this setup for a couple of years. I am a novice when it comes to solar but so far so good. Have not had to use the 2kva at all.
A couple of years ago we camped in FNQ at
Pandanus park for a week with fellow veterans. As there were a few close by campers I approached them all re generator use. 4 out of 5 agreed. The fifth guy was a solar enthusiast but said he would not object providing I was reasonable with the generators use. As it turned out all four other campers were hooked into my generator to recharge batteries, whatever.Everyone seemed happy and we kept the generator to daylight use and switched off about 4pm.
The other four campers were generator free when they arrived but happily took up my willing offer of free power.
However, and this is not a criticism but an observation I made, the solar guy kept starting his diesel (close by and loud) motor to pump up his failing battery and obviously struggling solar panel.
None of us had a hair drier as such but we all had fresh food and cold beer etc.
I guess we are all past roughing it these days.
Jim

thank for a answer which promotes a discussion, unlike our dear friend jimbo vic who seems rather offended by people asking why it is that gennies seem to be the norm these days and no on can object to them ttfn

Gaday boy. Just because you can't see any point to taking mod cons
camping doesn't mean that others can't enjoy both the wired up luxuries in life at the same time as enjoying the bush and everything that it has to offer as
well. It would be naive to believe that one has to rough it to enjoy
camping. Isn't it just possible that one could enjoy a chat, drink billy tea, & watch
Bathurst on TV while eating a hot pie from the microwave sitting by a campfire ???
As long as the noise isn't bothering anyone else what does it really matter.
Cheers Craig........

Muddyboy,
Each to their own, BUT, if I go away to do nothing but listen to the birds and the wind in the trees I would be bleep off if campers pulled in beside me and all I could hear from my hammock was a generator and sports commentators voices from a tv being run off said generator.
Having said that, If I go to a popular spot then I have to accept that there maybe generators or yobbos playing loud music and leaving their
campsite covered in empty rum cans or families having domestics etc. If I go somewhere a little more remote, then 'remote' is why I go there and it's got nothing to do with tv remotes LOL

On the other side of things, we
camp remote, if someone camps close enough to us to hear our generator, if it's running, then I have no sympathy. It's a big country!

Why all the paranoia about generators ???
What about kids on damn mini bikes, loud music, vehicles idling to heat showers, etc etc etc ?

That is the "classic" complaint , makes me laugh , No generators ,too loud ,disturbes the ambience of the bush , then they
trundle off and start the vehicle and run it for the next hour+ to have there vehicle mounted hot
water. , my gen set that we only for backup to the solar panels if more than 3-4 days of no sun is a 2 stroke Scorpion , 53db at 7mtr on full
bore , my 80 series turbo diesel at 1000rpm 7mtr away reads 65 db .. noisy genny ??? think not.

I think generators have their place if they are used as JimDi mentioned .
Muddyboy , if you really want to read some debate on this , go to the archives , as it has been done to death , over and over again , ad infinitum .

Trying to stop generator use is like trying to stop people being loud when they drink. It has to be taken as one of
the hazards of being alive. But isn't it great when they turn off and you find... yes, there are birds?
Perhaps worse is the being in a caravan
park near one of those really noisy air conditioners on some of the big Winnebago type campers.
The bottom line is some consideration for others and happily most of the contributors here have shown they do.... consider others
