Well... most of us who travel this country would probably have, or wish we had, a pair of binoculars.
Finally dispatched my 30 year old 8x50 pair yesterday - just didn't have the clarity I wanted - and purchased a pair of Nikon Sportstar IV 8x25DCF for $120 from Teds Cameras (should have been $140 but they were the display model).
Delighted with them, beautiful clarity, lots of light, small,
water proof(ish), comfortable to use. If you're in the market for a pair of general purpose binoculars these are hard to beat.

Hi Mike
I bought the wife/
cook a set of Bushnell Perma Focus Binoculars
for her birthday, she is mad keen on looking at wild life ect.
You just put them up to your eyes and they auto focus.
She given me her old ones 1976 model.
Cheers

I have never owned a pair and after every trip I say I and going to get a pair.
I have used the self focusing ones they are pretty snazzy but I think expensive.
All the best

Hi Eric
I purchased these from Whitworths Marine, on the
Gold Coast, they
only cost $168-00 with a 2 year warranty.
PS . you can buy them from most
camping stores up your way.

Mine are Tasco 7 x 50mm. Were worth around $350.
Worked fine until the neice dropped them off the ironing board. Now they rattle and I'm too embaressed to take them outside. :((

I've got a pair of Carl Zeiss Jena (East Germany) 8X30 ones I've had for years, very nice but I wish I'd got the ones from Obercochen (West Germany) as these are the best you can get along with Leitz of course.
Regards Andrew.

Jimbo's right, when I bought
mine east was east and west was west and never the twain shall meet.

We use a couple of cheap ones we were sent for renewing a magazine subscription. Not the flashest in the
camp ground but they are good enough for us. But then the handbrake hasn't used a good pair so when that happens I'll be ready.
Thanks Mike

I had a good
shop around after my last pair were stolen out of my Cruiser while recovering a strangers 4wd from a bog.....not happy !
Anyway i was going to buy the auto ones but apparently if your eye sight isnt 100% the viewing isn't as good as it could be. (so i was told)
Ended up settling on a Nikon Action 10x50 & absolutely love it.
If your in the market for one consider a Nikon.

Mike ,
I have a bino fetish . I love really good binos and when I go bush I am always peering through them at mountains or animals . I always have a pair in my pack , no matter where I am off to .
My latest purchase was a pair of Canon 18 x 50 Image Stabilized . I had to buy them on the net from the US as Canon Aust will not stock them . It is impossible to look through binos of this power without a rest , but when you hit the power button on these , everything is rock steady . They are heavy and bulky though - definitely not one to slip into the day pack !
I think you have picked the best all rounder in an 8 x 50 and if the lenses are good , you have a bargan .
Happy peering ,
Willie .

Our Tasco are a bit bulky and heavy to take up the mountain with the camera,
water, lunch etc, so i got a cheap pair from eBay. They aren't quite the same quality, but are small and light, and still help enhance the view. Paid around $20 i think.

I have a pair of Bausch & Lomb with the date 1943 stamped on them. I bought them at an auction of military equipment 45 years ago. They have travelled many
miles, are exremely rugged and will see me out. Every now and again I clean them and find I can see better. Like many old things they are good.
