Hi all,

Good to see Pajman Pete win his own submission for the Pick This Place competition:

=========================================
Correct answer was Point Ellen in SA
The winner was Pajman Pete (SA) prize Renewal Membership + ExplorOz Cap.
We had a total of 58 entries and the winning guess was recorded on 22/10/2007 11:25:00 AM. Place details provided by Pajman Pete (SA).
=========================================

We must make it harder for him to win next time ;-)

Hi All,

It should be obvious that one should not submit an entry to Pick this Place for photos that they have submitted. Sometimes we use photos that people have submitted months even years ago and sometimes people forget. The places system was coded to ensure that entries from the submitter would not be accepted but somehow this seems to have failed in this case and the error has been passed to David to add to his “To Fix List”. In the mean time please do not bend the system by submitting entries for photos of your own as they will be automatically voided as in this case.

Thanks Damian for the response......i'm not bitter or anything about it, just thought i'd have a sly dig at pete for his "win" :-)

You can rest assured that if i had some photos worthy of uploading, that i probably wouldn't be able to guess the location in any case:-( ...... i couldn't win my own photo competition ;-)

Thanks for the reply

Andrew,

Your reply sounds like Bucky, he took the photo "Kiwi" submitted and couldn't pick it LOL

And while 'picking' on Pick This Place... I don't think Damian or any of the EO staff should be permitted to enter this comp!
Fair's fair!
Like two out of the last four entries was won by Explore Oz Team - Damian!!!!
Come on... he's in charge of accepting entries so of course has access to the answers!

JJ,

What did he actually win??

There is obviously a reason that he did it (technical problem maybe). The latest one was Damian correcting the above mentioed problem.

Cheers Kev

That's cool Andrew.
In this case the Point Ellen email for Point Ellen was sent to us back in 2006. We do get a lot of entires but unfortunately we cannot use a lot of them because of either:

a) there is no lat/long or description
b) the place in the photo is much too easy or way too hard
c) it's an object and not a place as such
d) the place has no common name and may be a made up name
e) some other minor reasons

We are running a bit low in quality Pick this Place submissions and are asking if you can help keep this competition running by submitting your email to damian@exploroz.com

Please include: Place Title, State, Lat/Long, Good Description and about two or three photos so we can choose one for the competition.

Many thanks

I've been thinking about this for some time....i'll submit some place photos in the next couple of weeks hopefully (need to sort out a new digital camera first which some lowlife stole from our vehicle).

I saw the new place photo and thought "I have been there."

Spent some time thinking about where it might have been and came up with southern KI. Opened up OziExplorer to look at some maps, took a shot an won. WOW I was excited and scrolled down to see who submitted it. WHOOPS!!! Oh Embarrassment. :o(

It must be the seniors moments catching up. I submitted the shots back in April 2006 and had forgotten all about it. If the system can't stop dumb mistakes like mine I am no longer taking the risk of playing.

Pete, red faced and feeling stupid.

No, don't feel red-faced...it was quite funny to see actually :-)

The worse thing could be if you couldn't guess the location.

go on Pete, admit it, you had three attempts...

Great this Oltimers disease, isn't it. I can fill my own stocking at Christmas, AND hide my own Easter eggs.
