Just done the paperwork. After driving Landcruisers for the last 25 years I just bought a 2005 Patrol 4.2l Turbo Diesel Trayback patrol with 65,oookm on the dial.
I still got my 94 mod Landcruiser which I will sell private.
I decided to buy the Nissan after I was a bit disappointed to see that the new Landcruiser looks very little different from my old one and drives pretty much the same. The Patrol rides nice and looks nice in the cabin plus I saved about $10,000.
I hope I be as happy with my Nissan as I was with my Landcruisers.
Landcruisers are fantastic cars but I'm sure those days there will be very little different. Am I right?
cheers

Very little difference "Am I right"
Are you comparing a 94 75 series with a new 79 series TD V8??
I would not think you are right but its your money and you do as you please.
Also if you saved $10K on buying a 4.2 Nissan Vs a new 79 V8 I would think you may have paid to much for a second hand Nissan???
But as I said its your money and so long as your happy thats all that matters.

sorry mate but I rushed the posting a bit. I compared the 2005 Landcruiser with my old 95 mod Trayback. Very little has changed when you sit inside and not much difference driving either. Of course the Turbo makes for more power but I think Landcruiser could have done a few changes for the money we pay.
I'm talking traybacks here. A new V8 Landcruiser in $64,000 and besides the motor and coilsprings not much has changed.
I'm not knocking Landcruisers and I think they are very good and tuff trucks but I just felt I got a better deal with the Nissan.
I might wish I had paid 10k more and bought the Landcruiser down the road but right now I feel I done the right thing.
cheers

Reiner and John
The problem is people always want change , even heard some complaining that the new 70 series dash is like the old one , I love it , it's functional, it works , why change it , Easy to mount items like extra Cig, Socket on the side, GPS units, CBs , 2 car radio's , and you can place books and maps on the dash and they stay there, had a look at my Daughters new Triton , hopeless to try and mount anything unles you pull it apart and drill holes in it , and as for mounting any items on the end ...impossible

I still believe for a $60,000 + Trayback it could have something nicer and better seats inside. You are right the dash is practical like it is and it wouldnt be hard to change without wrecking it.
How many Cruiser owners do you know who still have the original seats?
As I said the Landcruiser is a great car and it works but it looks the same inside for over 20 years now.

They both have four
wheels, both have 4x4, both have a motor that turns the
wheels.......so whats the problem, if he's not happy he'll sell it.
Go on tell me what the difference is.....I've had both and damned if I can.

Yes Signman I did.........I tell you after our Tasmania Trip next year if I done the right thing or not. I still got my Landcruiser and might hide it behind the shed until the woman has forgotten we still own one...lol....Andy is right if I don't like it it will be sold.
They had a 4.2 Turbo diesel trayback as
well and I drove both within 15 min and must say the Nissan felt nicer........but we see.

He said $10K difference, not $100K so we can fairly safely assume (hmm not sure that is ever safe LOL) he was comparing apples with apples (used V used) not New V Used

He said "I was a bit disappointed to see that the new Landcruiser looks very little different from my old one and drives pretty much the same."
Nothing said about driving or comparing to a second hand 75 or 79 TD6, TDV8 or non turbo model anywhere.
The only comment if a reference to a "New" Landcruiser and the only "New" Landcruiser is the TDV8????

Fair enough, Has the 200 Series been released yet?
According to Toyota's website the 100 is still on sale.
So even then New could be the 100 series.
Guess we'll have to wait till he clarifies it for us!
And I don't believe it comes with a TD V8

Cookie if you look at his members profile he currently owns a 75 series so I can't see how he would be comparing a 94 model 75 series with a new 200 series which comes with a TDV8 and actually has twin turbo's or a 100 series for that matter.
Anyway its his money and so long as he's happy.

Doug the term 70 series relates to the range of vehicles released with a 7 in the prefix.
Have a look here
Spec Sheet Toyota still list on the respective spec sheets with the model designation 76 series, 78 series and 79 series together they make up the range of new 70 series vehicles.

i understand he was comparing his 75 series to a TD 79 series (pre v8)
Some differences (yes i have driven bthe recently)
-Great Motor the 4.2 TD did service for over 10 years in one guise or another and is very practical for the type of vehicle. The 1hz while a good moor is to old and slow by modern standards
- Cart springs vs coil springs front and longer leaves back, really improved the ride but load carrying did suffer without a spring upgrade
- More room behind the back seats, always comes in handy
what didnt change
-retained those ultra tough bush freindly wing gaurds as oposed to patrolsd and the new cruiser exposed panels
- great dash i wish my 80 had a dash you could chuck rulers, maps, folders a lounge suit and cupboards etc on to

Will you stop wriggling like that, what the man said was , as per his quote
"Are you comparing a 94 75 series with a new 79 series TD V8??"
OK does the 79 series have the TD V8 or not , we all know what a 75 has , what a 78 has , but the 79 ...Hmmm , from what I have seen on Toyota's web site it is the 70 series that has the TD V8

-Righto the bit about the 2005 cruiser indicated he is talking about a pre did v8 cruiser
- The tray back indicates hes talking about the ute
and finally
- referring to the turbo all adds up to he is specifically referring to a 2nd hand 2005 model turbo diesal 6cyl ute

Doug if you look at the spec sheets for the new range of 70 series vehicles, IE the 76, 78 and the 79 all come with the TD V8 only.
The 78 and 79 series model designation occurred when Toyota fitted front coils etc to the model range the previous tray/Ute was still designated a 75 series tray to my knowledge.
Reiners original post did not list what model he was actually comparing his 94 model against other than it was "New" thats why I made the comment along the lines of comparing a 94 tray with a "New" 2007 model is not a fair comparison. (My assumption)
He then elaborated that he was comparing against a 2005 model which is the 79 series TD6.
Hope this helps. :-)

Reiner,
I went from an 03 hilux to a 06 Navara. The price difference between the 2 was 10k and now I really wished I had stayed with the lux.
But not to worry I learnt my lesson, a very expensive lesson but I am now getting the cruiser ute. Woo Hoo

Going a brand new 4.5 V8. Just reading a thread above I am thinking I may have to order it now to get it here before next season.
Looks like I may be carless for a while. As soon as my latest warranty issues are fixed I am selling the Navara.

I been told you have to wait 8 month for a V8 Cruiser, but I was told that by a dealer who sells sec hand Toyota's so I wouldn't bet my life on it. Best bet would be a call to Toyota.
I like the V8 and spoke to People at the Cape who drove a V8 Troopy which was a Britz Hire one. The two Gentlemen had hired it in
Cairns and thought it was fantastic........I'm sure it is. Ruth here in the
forum got one and she does a lot of driving.
(I think she can't quiet leave

These patrols are tough as old boots, great diesel engines and honestly they are just as good as the 'yota.
With Nissan's reduced cost s/hand, better LSD, diffs and g/box, comfier interior why would you get a s/hand 'yota if not just for their reputation?

You could have bought 26 Series 1 landrovers or 20 series 2's or 3000 6cyl series 2 landovers for the same price, all great vehicles with air con standard, sunroof, in floor heating, brakes what! brakes, why bother with these inferior Japanese rice burners with no power or good looks.
