Has any member received the following text message from telstra. "Get $100 credit on your bill for each eligible service you upgrade from CDMA to Next G. Ends 13/11/07". I wonder how much the offer will be after 13/11/07.

Telstra complaints department rang today to follow up on the poor service I was receiving from my Next G phone. Basically they said the service was as good as CDMA if not better and I did not know what I was talking about. I then reminded them that I still had the CDMA service and the direct comparison, during my travels around the state, revealed the Next G service a very poor second. Perhaps you should try another phone was their reply. I remember taking their advice and purchased the phone they recommended in the first place and now they tell me to buy a phone that the truckies use. I repeated my previous statement regarding the poor service and gave a the indication that I was not being told the truth. The telstra operator then said that the complaint would be closed as they were not able to help me.

Straight after the call had ended the SMS message appeared advising of the $100.00 offer.

Is this a NSW issue with coverage?

We have been running a CDMA & Next G phone for 4 months now. We have used both of them in Victoria, & the southern parts of SA & WA. We ran both in the 4WD without external antennas.

We found no noticeable difference from either service. We also took out a data pack when used it extensively while travelling in outback SA & WA & country Vic.

We even downloaded the latest version of Ozi CE with the Next G phone as our PDA needed the software to be reinstalled, and we didnt have a copy on our laptop. The download speed was around 25KB/sec. This saved us a lot of frustration as the PDA was up & running a few minutes later.

So far we are happy with the Next G coverage. Oh, we are using the Telstra 252 next G phone & a Nokia CDMA phone.

As for the $100 credit, Telstra gave it to us after we had a few issues with setting up & using their datapack.

Hi Zebra400

Perhaps NSW is behind Vic. The $100.00 credit started yesterday in NSW. How much are you paying for the internet service?

Yep I regulary run both a GSM sim and a next G Sim in my phone and sometimes the next G will outperform the GSM for range but just as often GSM outperforms or is no worse than Next G.
Sitting in my room at work both are just as patchy as each other with the phone usually reverting to GSM because the next g signal isnt strong enough.
I have not a shadow of a dought that while next G is marginally better than GSM it doesnt come within Cooee of the old GSM system for range.
Whikle driving around it is not unusual for Next G to become patchy within 5km from a town and dead at 10

We recently returned from a road from Perth to Darwin. We travelled back with another bloke with a CDMA phone, we have the next G. He was able to receive signal long before us on all occasions, result not happy with the next G.
Rang Telstra yesterday with a friendly complaint about the service. They asked what type of phone we had (ZTE Telstra supplied) and they recommended we get a Samsung A412. After a chat, they agreed to swap the phones at no cost, just had to start a new 24mth plan which doesn't bother us as we don't intend on leaving Telstra. Phone arrives Thurs by courier so hopefully it will improve the situation. Regards Nav.

our truck drivers report substantially better coverage on NextG to CDMA everywhere all around and over Aus. GSM can only go 36k from the tower and no limit with NextG. Telstra has 200km towers in some locations around Aus for NextG. You whinging complainers should go and sign up with Optus or Vodafone then you could have something to complain about. Indpendent testing now shows NextG covers 32% more. Check out the website for you disbelievers and knockers to see.

Read the fine print too, to see how and when you can expect to get the $100 - just more tricks from Solly.....
BTW - it still beats me why Solly is here at all 'working' for Telstra - he got a $97,000,000 AUD severance payout from his last job !
He must be having a lot of fun.

Evening Zodarp

Have not seen that sms from Telstra yet but have been getting the "CDMA coverage will be switched off on 28 Jan 08" b/s and phone calls telling me that I could loose my mobile number etc etc. I'm hanging onto my CDMA til the death and then only under sufference will I change it for a Next G. I love my old phone - rarely does it not have service and has never let me down even out the back of Bourke.

Cheers
