I'm planning to take the family to Dubbo zoo and along the way visit
Wellington Caves, the Warrumbungles, Mt Kaputar, the observatory at Coonabarabran, maybe
Lake Keepit....
Travelling from Murwillumbah (near the Qld border), there are various routes we can take so I'm thinking that some suggestions from you might help me decide.
Considering that the stop-overs would be no more than two nights, what are the best spots you have camped at in this region?
I should clarify that I have been doing my research but in the end the info about
camping grounds is limited to fees/water/fires allowed etc but doesn't tell you what the
campground is like. ie shady, great
views etc. We are not interested in rest areas on main roads.
Any other ideas about travelling in this area are very welcome.
Thanks,
Brian

My favourite in the area is
Goobang National Park - sort of behind
Parkes. Lovely bit of country, some easy 4WDing and a couple of
good camp grounds.
Places for the kids to walk etc.
When you go to the observatory at Coona, stay in the Warrumbungles NP too - very heavily used but some great walks for all ages of kids.
Coolah Tops NP is a long way up on the ranges and may be out of your way, but again a great spot to
camp.
They'd be my favourites - you can get more detail on the NSW National Parks web site.
Happy planning

Thanks Max,
We are planning on
camping in the Warrumbungles. There seems to be a few
camp grounds to choose from; are they all nice?
Looked up Coolah as
well; glad you recommended it.
Thanks again for the reply,
Brian

I have just looked up Goobang; I hadn't thought of going further than Dubbo but maybe that is a good reason.
Thanks again, again :-))))

There will be heaps of others who have been there since I went last, and they can give more up to date info. From memory though,
Camp Blackman has flush
toilets, showers etc, but is huge. Lots of other people there.
Wambelong from memory is pretty nice and smaller if you are happy with pit
toilets. I can't remember what Waylay is like but would be more peaceful if you can get in it and the others there don't have a boom box going flat out!
In fact - any would probably do.

Hi Bware
Rather than staying in Dubbo...stay at
Narromine just down the road. You can stay on the airfield in the Caravan
Park..visiit the air museum and it is very green, quiet and good facilities.
Cheers
