Just a question to anyone that could explain what could be the problem with my 3 way frig.
I have a chestcold frig freezer 60 litre blue in colour if that make any diff.It seams to work ok on 240 and 12volt but on gas it can't keep up.
We went on a trip to Canarvon Gorge Qld a few weeks ago fired it up at home 2 days b4 leaving on 240 volt no probs pluged into 12 volt while traveling all OK.
But when we got to Canarvon Gorge we had a non powered site so fired it up on gas. After a couple days it was only about 3degrees the diff between outside and inside the frig. The flame looked good it never went out.Could the 240/12 volt system have a different thermostat or what the ?
Cheers Scoof..

Disconnect the fridge from all sources and put it on it's lid for a few hours then turn it back over and use as normal.
Don't ask me why or how but in most cases this will fix the problem.
Cheers Kev

Thanks Kev I did do that before I packed away in the shed after the trip so I'm yet to know if it's done the trick.
I was thinking maybe the gas termostat has packed it in , that's if it run seperate from the electric side of things.

Yes that works Kev and secondly most people don't know this, 3 way fridges when running on gas "MUST"be on a flat and level surface, if they are on an angle sloping down they don't work properley.

Scoof,
Try cleaning the jet in the gas system. They sometimes block up and will not allow the right amount of gas to burn.

Hi Scoof
Turning it upside down won't make any diiference as it's working, just not on gas.
I had the same problem with my green F400 explorer and found by getting a toothbrush and some metho or a small wire brush and cleaning around the jet it will increase the gas flow and make it run how it should.
The jets block up due to carbon build up and restrict gas flow, so the ends just need to be cleaned occasionally.
With 3 way fridges, it's best to check they're working properly before you go away - they are good fridges, but need some maintainence.
Cheers, Will.

Hi Scoof,
Probably talking to the converted but must ask..Is it level both ways? It should be, Makes a BIG difference when running on gas.

Have had a problem with a wasp nest in the flue pipe would not work on gas all else fine. The electric elements (12 & 240 v) are wrapped on the outside of the flue tube and will work fine but the gas flame heats from the inside therefor any restriction will stop it working dosen't hurt to remove any soot as
well

Also check that a hornet etc hasn't made a home in the flu at the back.
Hope you find the problem soon.

The golden rule with these fridges is something nobody ever told me..!
1. You must run them absolutely on a flat level surface, if they are tilted they don't work properley and secondly when you get a chance leave it upside down overnight or for a few hours and you'll be right.

Hi TerraFirma,
When it wasn't working out
camping I got the book out and it says in the operators manual to ensure the unit is level but it didn't make any difference.
On 240/12 volt would it need to be level as
well I asume it would.
What I cant work out is it worked great on electricity but it didn't
even make the cooling plate inside the frig or freezer even feel cold on gas.
How fussy do you have to get when makeing it level by eye good enough or by spirit level??.
I did it by eye then just to
check I used a bottle almost compltely full and the bubble was in the centre of the bottle.

Scoof,
Mine is 10 years old , don't use it much, have a Waeco 40L now but lent it to a mate who is travelling outback, so got the old Chessagirl out for this weekend, and she barked and fired up eventually on gas, don't run it on 12V as they run best on GAS (When they're working).
Level by eye would be fine , have you tipped it upside down overnight..? That fixed
mine once when it was playing up on gas, failing that the jets may need a clean or you could get it serviced. What I do love about these fridges is that whilst they are slow to get cranking once they are away abnd running on gas they are an efficient solution and you don't have to worry about batteries etc etc and can use the
battery power for other things.

Read your problem with the Chescold fridge and all the suggestions to the cause.I have worked on the for years and agree that it must be leve but if it works on 12v and 240v then the refridgeration unit is ok and after checking for blockages in both the supply line and flue it can only be the gas supply jet.
Clean this with thinners only to remove the varnish type residue which is usually the cause.
Absorbtion fridge problems are either simple or serious yours is a simple one as the unit works ok on 240v

T.D and TerraFirma,
I only turned it upside down for about 2 hours is that good enough.
I will remove it and have another look at the jets.
It has worked
well in the past we had icey poles for the kids when we crossed the Simpson Dessert and ice cold cooper's and wine every night .So I just hope I can fix it.

All turning the fridge upside down does is shif particles of rust on the inside of the sealed unit, which is filled with an amonia solution but that is not necessary as it is woring on 240v. Clean the jet and fire it up level and it will work unless the reg is RS. To
check that try another reg or put a manometer on the
test point on the fridge it should read 11 inch water guage or 2.75kpa

My understanding of the Eutetic type of fridges is that could be the case.
I dont think the 12v/240v system actually has a thermostat and thats why they are heavy on power consumption.
The Gas has the thermostat.
