I also find offense in this reply .... I have been a bike rider since i was 15 yrs old - I currently have a CRF450 ( trail bike ) and a Honda 900 fireblade roadbike - i for one don't run red lights nor do any of the people i ride with ( and i ride with about 40 bikes on ride days / nights) Most of us approach lights expecting cage drivers to be running red lights. yes we bend the rules a little, one of the hottest items of contention is lane splitting ( or filtering depending where your from ) This is where we run up the inside at a red light to get to the front of the line. I myself do this for the following reasons. 1) when in peak hour traffic every idiot has(horse) blinkers on and chop and changes lanes without looking for a car , so what chance does a bike have to be seen if they cant see 1000kg cage next to them ? 2) by lane splitting to the front , i do not contribute to the traffic jam and take up one car space. and because my Bike accelerates much harder than a 4x4 and most if not more than any car, i m away from the madness before i even hit second gear giving me a much better chance of survival to the next red light.
Why do i ride a bike then if its so dangerous >? why do you 4x4 ? this is potentially dangerous also. Its fun - and for me its cheap as it costs me about $15 in fuel each week as apposed to $60 if i take the nissan -- in peak hour traffic i can be at work in 20 min with my bike - by car 45 min
you may see us a ratbags - but just remember that some bike riders are that way because they have almost been cleaned up by soccer mums and 4 foot asian ladies driving Lancrushers that can not even see over the steering wheel - its out of necessity that our riding style looks offensive rather than defensive
