I have been looking at a 2004, 3.0l TD Hilux cab chassis to replace my old 86 Hilux. I have heard they are heavy on fuel. Can anyone let me know if this is the case? They seem like a reasonable 4wd to me, and they go a fair bit better than the old 2.4D.
Thanks in advance,
Bob

Bob,
My vehicle gets around with the drawer system, fridge, recovery gear, barwork etc on it permanently and mt fuel use average from May 2003 to now is 10.83 ltr per 100 km.
I'm pretty happy with that,

My 99 3lt turbo Hilux got about 10.5 lt per 100km, but my newer 04 model gets about 11.7 lt per 100km. The older one goes harder too. I'm hoping
mine will improve with age. I noticed a difference in the older one at about the 85,000 km mark. My eldest daughter has it now. 230,000 km and going
well. No work done on motor, not even injectors. Some bushes in the steering replaced. Few after market changes and additions. She tows a horse float often.
They are a very strong vehicle and reliable.

Thank you for your replies. I didn't think it would be as bad as people have made out. I would be quite happy with the results you get. Unfortunately the 4wd I was looking at was sold minutes before I went down to the car yard and told them I would take it. Two door tray tops seem to be as rare as hens' teeth.
Anyway I will keep looking.
Thanks again to you all,
Bob
