Hi Dave,
Depends how long the
water has been in there! But it sounds like the fault is terminal, as corrosion is the big problem, aggravated by the power being on.
Normally, if you get sea
water in any electronics, remove power immediately, try to drain/shake off any
water immediately, and as soon as you can, rinse out (yes!) with fresh
water to remove the salt, then warm in an oven at about 50deg to dry out all
water. Don't overheat, as you will melt things and don't connect the power until you are sure that the device is completely dried out. You have nothing to lose, and everything to gain.
Even rescued a laptop this way.

Hi joc45
The frame work is rusty and electric board has
water marks on it so I would say it is cactus,do you know if VHF is better to use than 27 meg & do you need a licence for it,we only go out side occasionally.
Cheers Dave...

You'll need a MROVCP (or MROCP) license for UHF marine, nothing for 27 meg.

Dave
Latest GME GX300 27Mhz only $150 and waterproof. Cheaper no name brands for as little as $99.
Cheap insurance if needed in an emergency rather than relying on one that could be suss after
water damage - throw it and buy a new one.
Cheers

Repairing a
water damaged device can be like chasing your tail , one thing after another, buy a new one.
