A few People on here have asked about these tyres before, I have used
mine on sand, mud, rocks and dirt. I have found them Very grippy on the tar wet and dry, Was not impressed on sand but that would be more to do with tread pattern. On muddy and rocky tracks they are excellent.
In regards to wear I would estimate that running them down to minimum legal depth I will see 50000-60000 Kms out of them. To some that is not great, but in regards to the price of the tyres I feel it is acceptable. They have chipped a bit not enough to be of any real concern.
I am quite hard on my tyres so my over all opinion of them is good tyre for the price, BUT I will be trying some BFG'S next set.
Cheers Stefan

I have heard mixed reports about Maxxis tyres, and have therefore been a little reluctant to try them, but whilst getting the wheel alignment done on my vehicle, I asked about Maxxis 4x4 tyres. Was informed that they were not bad for the price and one could get reasonably ( depends on whose version of " reasonably" you believe )good mileage out of them. Am currently running Nexus/Roadstone tyres at the moment and have done a little over 20,000Km on them. Tread about 40% worn, extremely good grip in the wet, great on sand and gravel, hopeless in the mud. Hopefully they will last until next year, and can be replaced with either Mickey Thompson, Procomp or Cooper STC before I tackle the CSR in June next year. Depends on how much the missus will let me take out of the bank !!!!

Hi Stefan.
50,000 - 60,000 out of a set of Bighorns is a lot better than 15,000 out of a set of Cooper ST's

The faulty tyre I could cope with, tyres do fail sometimes before they are worn out. The complete brush off by the Cooper dealer bleep me off a bit, he thought that not being able to use a tyre even for a spare after 15,000 k's is normal wear and tear.

Hi Stefan,
just beware of the problem BFG have and still have with de lamination, three of the 4 on my cruiser had de lamination problems and were only half worn, so I opted to put another set of tyres on it.
As for one I did not like the hard ride feel / road noise / following lines on the road.
I replaced them with the GT Radial Adventuro and are very happy with them.
I was told it is not uncommon to get above 70.000klms out of a set.

I have run GT Radials for about 15 years and had many many sets, giving me in excess of 80000 ks a set.
Then they changed to crap tyres, ran one set of adventuro's, got 36000 ks and were very noisy and poor road holding.
They have now lost a customer and the dealer said the same, most have gone away from there cheap replacements.
I have a set of Maxxis Mudder Buckshots and they are very good so far.
Have about 25000k on them and expect to get around 60,000, and i have given them hell so far.
They are good in all terrains, seem very puncture resistant, and very quiet on the road for mud tyres.
Paid around $180 each.
Happy with my choice.
Cheers Pesty

Well based on my current kms....I have about a year or so to research my next tyres. I certainly have no brand loyalty, so open to anything really

I put a set of Maxxis on the National Trust Listed Paj 4,000 km ago and had a blowout on a rear tyre in the Flinders last week. A central tread block had seperated and the tyre is ruined.
We were driving down a good gravel road at the time.
I have been in
Perth all week and have not had a chance to get back to the supplier yet. I will let you know how it goes.
Pete
