Hi
Anybody got a Sunbeam FoodSaver home vacuum packaging system? What do you think to the unit? Is it a good enough vacuum etc etc.
I've seen the 550 and the 420 - any difference between them as far as effectiveness?
Cheers
George

We've been using one for a couple of years now - not sure which model - probably the smaller - take it with us on trips and vac the tucker in towns prior to heading bush - excellent unit and easy to use - we do have the odd bag failure (air leak) but its rare (might be us anyway).

We've got the smaller one and it works
well, haven't had any problems vaccing all sorts of stuff. We pack in 'meals' for stuff like rice etc and it travels really
well and takes up less space on extended trips.

G'day George.
We have the 420 for about 2 years now and it works very good.
We had seldom a sealing problem and if we had one, it turned out to be our fault and not the Foodsaver.
Money
well spend I think.

We have the 550 and find it very good and haven't had a bag leak yet.
The vaccum will suck the juice out of steak if your not careful!
Alas we have run out of bags anybody know where to get more?
Cheers Jim

George,
We didn't get a Sunbeam - bought an "Orved" Italian Made Vacuum packer from Master Butchers on Churchill Rd. Works fine. Cost a little more than the Sunbeam a couple of years ago, but it takes the cheap bags (About $25-30 per 100).

George, a big consideration is the and cost of bags. I have a different brand and not suggesting any particular one. But I think you will find that Sunbeam and a couple of others only use bags with 'hatching' on the inside. I believe these are much more expensive than the standard thick vac bags used by butchers and many other machines.
I have no doubt the Sunbeam is a good machine but thought I'd mention this so you can do some research and make an informed decision.

If you are an eBayer, it is a good place to start for both machines and bags.
