Hello all.

a couple of months ago my aux battery dropped a cell and thought it necessary to explode whilst under the bonnet. Did realise for a couple of days until I checked the oil- Not a great feeling lifting the bonnet and finding lots of white, furry corrosion over everything. It has been cleaned and cleaned and cleaned, and from what I can tell it is all off. However this is not the issue, my issue is that since then, I have alot of surface rust developing (very superficial) developing everywhere- rocker cover, block, injector pump, chassis etc. I would like to know of there is anything I can do, apart from removing the engine, sand blasting and respraying to remove the rust and/or to prevent the rust from getting any worse.

All (read any sensible) ideas welcome, actually, someone throw in a curly one...Im up for a laugh.

cheers

Mike

a solution of bicarb soda to neutralise the acid would be a good start... apply it to everywhere that took a hit, and let it dry for a few hours then wash it off...

Andrew, thanks for that, I take it when you say solution of Bicarb, you are talking bicarb and water?

cheers

just give the engine bay a good spray with light oil or crc wd40. I had paint coming off above the battery last year and I had to give that a bit of a rub and paint but the engine tends to cover itself with a light coat of oil anyway. Keep an eye on the paintwork.

I have also heard that a solution of bicarb soda and give it a good wash and let it dry.

Then paint on some rust converter, leave over night and sand lightly and spray over it.
Use a primer and touch up paint.

you can buy touch up cans at most car accessory places.

This is what I have heard so I would check with a spray painter first.

Regarding your Block, you can now buy a Black Gal spray can from most Steel suppliers for about $10.00, this works a treat on anything like that as well as Diff housings etc.

Thanks for that-and also to all that responded.

The only problem I will have is the sanding bit, as it is in some pretty ordinary places.

I will try the bicarb route, and see where we go from there.
