Thanks for everyones responses to my turbo vs non turbo question....I reckon I'm armed with enough info now on what I want.
Next question...what are the common problems with the 80 series...ie body/chassis cracks, usual rust spots, or any dramas to be obviously aware of.

mrdesmo,

Had a 90 model turbo, and now have a 97 turbo. Two completely different vehicles, but both have good points. These are problems I've found.
90 model: dash support breaks off on left side, easily fixed with tek screws.
Ordinary suspension, lower tailgate problems, wheel bearings need adjusting regularly. Top gear seems to be too low.

97 model: crack in "C" pillar, lower tail gate doesn't stay closed, wheel bearings as above, no other problems worth mentioning.

Get the latest model you can afford, turbo are best, after '95. Hooroo...

"C" pillar is one immediately behind rear doors, ie "A" are ones at windscreen. "B" are ones between the doors, and "C" is as above. Noticed some hairline cracks at top of this, must be caused by body flex, or driving over rough ground too much?

As with all 5 speed Tojo's, use 5th gear, only above 80kmh. Hooroo..
