Hi all

Hubby and I would like to take off on our own (with no kids) woo hoo for the Melb Cup weekend.

We don't want to travel too far but we really don't know where to go. We normally head up Echuca way but somewhere different would be really nice.

We have the camper trailer and don't really need to have power. I would like to be somewhere nice, quiet and restfull. We dont' want to spend too much time driving there and back as we only have a few days.

Any suggestions would be good. I thought that we would be best off heading somewhere inland rather than coast way cos the weather at this time of the year can be unpredictable but always seems to be warm inland.

Thanks Vic and Ug

Yes we are in Western Suburbs of Melb.

How silly of me not to put that bit in. I think maybe 4 hours travel tops would be ok.

Don't care if its a caravan park or bush as long as its nice and quiet

Try the Grampians. Probably 2 1/2 hours from the western suburbs and you can either camp in Halls Gap or into one on the bush camping area in the National Park. Have a look at the Voicparks web site. Cheers Scott.

Mt Araplies near Natimuk or Horsham. Basic and no showers but interesting watching the climbers and walking around the area.
Upper Yarra Dam camp ground. Nice and shady neither have power. Rode my motorbike up there today. Decided to take the caravan up sometime soon. Cheers

Do you want to turn left or right at the gate? That is a question I ask myself, but that doesn't give the final destination ;-))

I actually back the Pyrenees suggestion above. Waterfalls Camp is secluded DSE brochure and map have a look here. Another alternative is the Mt Cole area closer to the Western Highway. Has some nice camping too, but I don't have the reference for there.

Waterfalls is full with a dozen camps, there is a camp on Camerons Track up the top where I have seen an offroad van.

I'm from Brisbane but we spent a pleasant couple of days at the Daylesford Lake caravan park earlier in the year. Not sure if that is the correct name, but it is the furtherest out of town of the two lakes. Nice walks and plenty to look at around the area.

Vic and Dug.
You are welcome to stay on my property 50K south east of Melbourne. Plenty of bush and wild life and no noise except me working in the shed. The down side is that I am a scrap metal dealer and the property looks like a tip in places. Power and water if you want it. Eric.
