Does anyone have a Kaymar rear bar with dual swing away wheel carriers on a Toyota 75 series ? If so, can they please tell me, do the spares stick out past the sides of the vehicle when travelling.

Kiwi Kia,

I just went into the Kaymar web site. They show a single wheel carrier on a 75 Series, but when they show a dual wheel carrier it is on a Patrol.

Going by the single wheel carrier, the wheel does not stick out past the side of the vehicle.

When I made my dual wheel carrier the tyres do stick out past the side of the vehicle but not enough to cause any problems.

Thanks Wayne,
You obviously know what prompted me to ask the question :-)) The Kaymar web site could certainly show some better pics. I have a hi-top 75 series camper and there is no where else to store a second spare. I had thought about just carrying a carcass behind the bull bar but I am not to keen on that.

Agree with Richard, mine carries two 265 x 75 x R16 BFG Muddies and they are within the vehicle sides.

I have the one in the plastic box and its in the rear sliding _Affordable_Storage_Drawers.aspx, have thought about mounting a second unit but may go down the path of mounting it in the caravan..

Thanks Richard, Thanks John.

Some of the photos that I have seen of dual carriers (not on Troopies) looked as though the wheels stuck out beyond the sides of the vehicle.

Try K&N from WA , cheaper, better, Australian Made, and you can keep existing towbars.

Thanks Doug,

I have sent them an email requesting info and cost. Have you seen one of their wheel carriers ? Also, do you have any thoughts on which is best - two wheels together on one side or twin carriers ?

I sure have seen them , I own one , had it for over 2 years now, Although I got mine at Cost price and fitted with L.E.Ds It was still $500 cheaper than a Kaymar , I think the retail is about $300 under a Kaymar, and that is only a guess, I have a friend in Perth who had one and thats where I first seen it when I met up with him at Rocklea some 4 years ago and he use to work at K&N so that was a plus for me, He has a dual carrier but because he uses the split rims and narrower tyres he now has two on the right side , called military mount and he has cur the top frame of his left side and welded a flat plate on it and mounted a 2000kva Generator on it .
If you have wider wheels I don't it would be ideal to put 2 on one side ,In a few minutes I will put up a link to a photo for you

Thanks Doug, Good photos, do you not have a rear window wiper ?

K&N have not replied to my request for price etc yet.

Kaymar around $3,100 fitted with original tail lights.

Opposite Lock $2,750 fitted.

No wiper mate, It's not an RV , Mine is a commercial in every aspect,
My Tyre carrier was $1600 fitted , but as I said that was because I knew someone, you know the story , and that was nearly 3 years back, I had a problem with the right tail light LEDs , , half of them had expired so K&N replaced it no charge, back about January 07

Me again Doug, Thought you may interested in the following info received to day.

Kaymar - complete with tow hitch receiver and using existing lights $2700 plus fitting $340

K&N - No tow hitch receiver, no lights, $2200 plus freight to Melbourne $300 - $400, plus fitting $?

Opposite Lock - No tow hitch receiver, no lights, $2448 plus $280 fitting

Add lights and tow hitch receiver and the others are not far off Kaymar !

Good to see your doing the homework, but you didn't read my first post did you , have you got a tow bar now ...??? because with K&N you keep yours, with Kaymar you lose it because it has to be removed to fit the new Bar, K&N rear bar is like a table too , but fitting and freight is your dollar killer, I didn't have that cost . So now you have to decide don't you,....go for a drive to Perth .

Thanks Kev,

I have had a look at their web site and thats the same bar that K&N are offering but $200 dearer but without a $300 - $400 delvery cost. It still needs lights and a tow hitch receiver plus fitting so it looks like they are all about the same price.

Thanks Steve. I was also thinking pluging an large alloy rear step into the hitch receiver when camped. Old bones don't like the long drop down when they are stiff :-)) I will not be using the truck again till Feb so I have plenty of time to work out what I want.
