Googs Track

Planning a trip along Googs Track (Sth to Nth is best apparently) in April or May next year. 2 vehicles travelling with no trailers, just drivers and kids. How long does the trek take from Ceduna to Glendambo take?

Thanks

It's 316 klm from Ceduna to Kingoonya and 43klm more to Glendambo, It is easier going from North to South,
and you can check the treks here on ExplorOz in the trek section , see above

I agree that going from north to south is easier..... The authorities would prefer (or at least they "recommend") that people go south to north.

The problem is that far too many people (idiots) do it from south to north without lowering their tyre pressures sufficiently (or at all, in some cases I would bet!!!). That's a shame, because the southern side of the dunes is naturally not as steep as the northern side due to wind etc. But, because of the tyre issue I mentioned, the southern approaches to the dunes is all chopped up and you knock the cr@p out of your truck as you lurch from one part of the scalloped track to another. Once you get to the top, the drive down the northern side is a piece of cake; a little steeper, but nowhere near as rough.

So, with that in mind, if you can do it the "wrong way" (ie from north to south), you will be able to have a smoother run up the dunes and then ease yourself down the rough, southern side at a walking pace. PLEASE lower your tyre pressures to around 16psi so you don't cause the same sort of damage to the northern side of the dunes.

If you allow a minimum of 2 days you'll do it comfortably.

Cheers

Going from North to South is easier. A local from Ceduna did it that way driving a Holden Panel Van without a problem.

These days the as Roachie said the recommended way is South to North.

When I lived at Ceduna I did it a few times. To do the full loop we took three easy days.

Louie,
We have just got back from doing this trip and still getting things/pics etc together to load up.

In short we left Ceduna Friday 26th and left Mt Finke Sat 27th. Mainly due to hot weather and the threat of strong winds.

We did not stay at Goog's Lake, but it would be good to day this.

Send me your email address and I let you know when my pics are loaded, also will load fuel usuage etc.

We have LC 100 S, TD 2.4 auto, used 53 litres from Ceduna to Glendambo.

Bit rough on the approaches, I would say steeper from North to South.

Great drive and circumstances permitting, certainly spend some time at Googs Lake and Mt Finke.

We stayed at Shelly Beach C/V Pk, but unpowered sites pretty limited, but good park.

We did South to Nth, the corrugations you can live with but the scalloped out sand dunes do take some of the shine off of the trip. We went from Whyalla to Googs Lake on day 1, on to Tarcoola on day 2 and camped up by the old school, and then home day 3.
