From ABC News Online Sun, 25 May 2003 6:31 AEST:

A man has broken both his legs while trying to winch a bogged four-wheel-drive out of a quarry near Ormeau, south of Brisbane.

He was plucked out of rugged bushland by a rescue helicopter last night.

The helicopter crew had to negotiate hilly terrain to reach the 24-year-old man, who had suffered two compound fractures to his legs.

The man is now in Brisbane's Princess Alexandra Hospital in a stable condition.

The press have half a story again !they were snatching out a vehicle and pulled the bull bar clean off the vehicle and that poor fellow was in the wrong place at the wrong time.

In any winching or snatch recovery situation every spectator or person not actively involved in the recovery should be at least 1 1\2 times the length of the pull away. Use only recognised recovery points and air brakes. Low speed is all that is required for a snatch recovery, too much speed with an 8 tonne snatch strap is an accident waiting to happen. One of the most potentuially dangerous aspects of 4WD Driving is the recovery situation. Be aware, be sensible, be careful. Cheers RobCairns Offroad Training & Tours
