GQ patrol Speedo goes haywire

Hi all
Question for the speedo of a 4.2 diesle Gq ,
Has any 1 had or know of a fix for the speedo as ,it works 90% of the time but when it plays up
well on idle it flicks back and forwards betweem 80kms -140kms 'once you start moving it goes straight to 180kms my mate says that doesnt bother him it just that the speedomitor stops working too so he looses track of how many k's he does if you bash the consol sometimes it starts again .
He has looded at the back and cant see any loose wires just wondering if any1 has had this prob and what was the cause and the fix for it

Gees that would run a good 1/
4 mile time. 0 to 180klm in 10mts.
I would check the earth connections behind the dash as it sounds like dirty contacts.
They aren't cable driven ? are they.

Problem may be dirty connections under vehicle (First step) next send head to a instrument repairer Had both problems once fixed all
