Hi
I have just purchased 4 Rancho Shockers 5000 series for my GUII Patrol.
My mechanic is not impressed. Says they seem very poor quality and the bushes and nuts are inferior. He has purchased different nuts from an engineering supplier because he won't use the ones supplied!
He doesn't supply any brands of shockers. He just installs what his customers want so his opinion if not profit driven.
I am now very worried.
Cheers
Phil

I've had
mine on the Jackaroo for 50,000ks, and they are as good as the day I put them on.
They have survived the corrugations of
Cape York, as
well as numerous outings in the High Country.
Your mechanic is perhaps trying to reduce his customer base ?
When my customers ask me to set up a product thay have purchased elsewhere, I just do it, give them a bill, and fix it regularly if they have purchased something that turns out to be inferior.
It's good policy, in my view, not to tell the customer that what he likes, has selected and purchased, is rubbish.

Phil,
120,000 km out of a set of RS5000s fitted to an 80 Series with never a hitch. I replaced them recently and the rears looked liked something the cat dragged in, completely grit blasted and so dinged I was surprised they still worked, but they did.
Don't know about the specifics of your mate's concerns, but I would certainly use them again.
Matt.

Not used them myself.... and they used to be promoted with a nauseating hyper pitch - but...... apart from the odd lemon that gets through in any mass production run, shocks seem to have a lot to do with the driver - the group that I have traveled with a few times collectively has had a great run with shocks (and tyres) but we are quite conservative on the stones. As the others here indicate, if you take it easy on your hardware, you could
well end up a Rancho evangelist !

have a search of archives.
I had them, and they are crap on large 4b's..
Mine were replaced 3 times in 6mths until I threw them in the bin and fitted OMEs..
Never had a problem after that. Few others round the patrol forums had issues, zook owners nad small 4b owners love them.
Another bloke in our club at same time (OBC competitor now), had the same experience with them, then changed to Tuff Dog and was happy
Now running Koni's on the GU.

Fridges, tyres,Landcruiser v Patrol, it's the same story.
I have had RS9000 on the 80 series for 110000 Kms and they have been great but are now tired and need replacing. The rears also look like something the "cat dragged in"(to copy a phrase) but still work, sort of. Would be happy to buy again but that is not to say I wouldn't look around at others.

Hi
Thanks to everyone for their responses.
I have (reluctantly) installed the Ranchos. Time will tell.

I have a Prado TD yr 2000, and fitted the 9000's adjustables to the rear, and the 5000's to the front. The 9000's didnt last one trip to Birdsvile via
Innamincka and back (the welds on the bottom eyes broke) but he fronts have been on for 100,000 kms with no probs.
