Are the oil companies sticking it up diesel users now that petrol prices are under scrutiny, or is it just my imagination?

They have been sticking it to us for some time now. About the time of the Iraq invasion and the prices became the relativity that is still evident I asked Shell for an explanation on their website. The answer was that petrol was the greatest seller therefore market forces determined the price and it went down lower because of that. A couple of months ago I was in Europe and the relativity was greatly varied to here. Diesel was approximately 60% of the cost of petrol. Whilst I am
well aware that the prices are higher than here, it is still the relative price that gives me the gripes.

We should all be thankful that the Dollar is what it is because if it were down where it was last year the fuel would be probably $2.50 a litre,
But of course there is going to be a personallity vote for Rudd because everyone has blinkers on , wait until he stuffs up our economy then see what the cost of fuel will be .

Hi Doug,
In relation to the personality vote for "Elmer Fudd" and his deputy"Tinkerbelle".....This little black duck will not consider voting for them. Too many risks involved in following "Mr I'll Do That Too".
Mind you, neither of the so called Major Parties has given a clue as to how their promises will be funded.
My guess would be an increase in the GST rate, it will hit everyone.
I'll be getting my name checked off at the Polling Booth.
And before I am bombarded with messages about not voting, read what I've said.

I think some have forgotten what price fuels went to when Oil was around the $68 -$70 a barrel when the dollar was worth somewhere around the 65c to 68c US
New
York's main futures contract, light sweet crude for delivery in December, tumbled by $US2.13 to $US91.40 per barrel, after striking a record high $US93.80 yesterday.

Mate, you need to get out more and mix with real people. It is common knowledge that the demand for diesel is far outstripping supply. The northern hemisphere is heading into winter and the demand for heating oil there is outstanding hence the short supply and high price of diesel in this country (and probably others too). With the rapid developement in countries such as Chine and India (did you know that it won't be long before more new vehicles are sold in Chine per year than in USA) their demand for and use of diesel will continue to keep local prices sky high. You'll just have to get used to it. Sorry.
