Is that like playing two chords in sequence only playing a minor part.

Like being a bank robber only your not holding the gun, so your only playing a minor part in the sequence.

Laura

Hopefully i've deciphered all that properly lol

As part of a bachelors degree you will usually have to major in a particular subject. The distinction between major/minor subjects in a degree is the number of units you must take from that subject.

For instance:
If you were enrolled in a Bachelor or Arts, majoring in History, you would be required to take (say) 12 History units, whilst the the remaining 12 units could be comprised of units from other disciplines (say English, Anthropology etc).

Minor units are also often electives, whilst units forming a major may be compulsory.

Hope that helps

in the case above, English or Anrthrop would be your minor units

I read just then that a minor would be either a suitable 1st yr sequence +2 x 2nd yr or 2 x 3rd yr units OR 2x2nd yr + 2 x 3rd yr units....

Gonna do a BA...but thought Id pull out at Diploma level - take too long at part time - got 3 kids at home...major in Society and the environment and 8 electives (basically doing another major in Australian Studies)....post graduate in Music and SOSE (legal studies)....just gotta find whether open uni offer music somewhere along the line cos i cannt seem to find it....and legal studies - should i do criminology??

ahhh...the joys of changing my mind at last minute...!!

thanks,

Laura, skip the minor levels and just do a Masters to start. You can do that some times later in life. I just listen to music, well some of it ;-))))))

Figured its time for me to go to uni....
Going to do a Bachelor of Arts - but Im gonna pull out at diploma level - will take too long at part time.....
then going to do post graduate course and do music and hopefully legal studies....but a requirement for music is to do a major and legal studies a minor....the only difference is the amount of units you do ie subjects...

soes this make a bit more sense...

It made more snse to me when iwas gonna do criminology...!!LOL!!

Do Criminology. I'm having a real battle down here in the Village trying to convince a University to specialise in emerging forensic technology.

I would have thought a minor sequence was a small run of things in order.
The best I can offer is"Doh, Ray, Me, So, Fah, Lah, Tee, Doh"

when you hear about minor's in music its got to do with the key the music is in....but this has got to do with uni courses and getting more little letters after my name....

Laura,

why are you going to pull out at Diploma level? you may have explained it, but am a bit confused - it's the algebra I did last night. I have a BA - Major History - Minor Politics..fortunately I did it before I even considered children..so just 3 straight years...If you could stick it out..I'd encourage you to go for the Bachelor Level...more doors open for you, but I understand how hard it is with kids...I've been doing courses to keep my hand in with the University of New England - they have quite a few courses online and via correspondance.

I've just been offerred a place at Uni to do a Grad Dip Ed in Primary..and I'm quite chuffed only 30 places were on offer..just got to decide if I want to go to this particular Uni or wait and hope the others offer me a spot in the new year.

What ever you decide...Good Luck with it all...if you need help in any way...just drop me a line

cheers

Lyn

Was looking at open.edu for courses but found just what i wanted from UNE....never gave them a thought until today about this course.....Found what i want with out too much grief - Bachelo of Music / Teaching.....

I was crazy and did things the "wrong way round" and got Pregnant at 20 - 21 so only had time to complete my diploma through AMEB, now I can squeeze uni with Jonty nearly 1.

Good luck choosing if you'll do the course or not....must feel pretty good being chosen for the 30 !!!! Congrats !!!!

Hi Laura,

UNE are a great Uni, stuff is delivered on time and they have great online stuff, plus you can contact your tutors easily and they are pretty understanding when it comes to deadlines. Both Al and I have been doing courses with them, Al has a Diploma and is on his way to an Adv Dip and then will consider doing a masters..he is able to work in his own time towards this...other courses have deadlines etc. They also run summer schools and you may also have to go on campus sometimes..but all is explained to you...stick to it and it'll be great..and don't be put off if things seem a bit overwhelming at the start.

I have the weekend to think about what I'll do, at the moment I'm leaning on not accepting this offer and hoping one of the closer unis offer me a spot in the new year.....though if I take this offer up I'll be finished by june and could be teaching in July!
