I am interested in the Windsor Rapid vans but was wondering if someone out there who actually owns one, could let me know when it rains what it is like inside for noise level.

I have been told (by a Jayco Expanda owner - so maybe questionable) that due to the roof being metal over the bed ends and the excellent insulated main roof (his words) that it is like sleeping or living under a jackhammer when it rains/storms.

I wasnt sure how much of this is true and how much is either BS or jealousy from the Jayco owner.

Cheers Mick

They've got every reason to be jealous Ozboc, as they're a much better finished van.
To answer the question though, yes it is noisy inside during heavy rain and also if parked under trees and honky nuts etc. keep dropping off all night!
But that's the only downside to having one and it doesn't rain that often.
They're an excellent van for families and we did many miles in ours with the grand kids.
Alan.

Hi Mick,

Tell him he is dreamin!!!

I was in my Rapid on a particularly bad storm (our campfire ended up underwater with the flooding!) and while it was loud, it was that volume throughout the entire van ie. under the insulated fiberglass roof or the van ends.

The sound of the wind was arguably louder than the rain and when its raining that heavy, you normally have a decent wind blowing and I would certainly prefer a metal roof over my head than a canvas one in those circumstances.

I now have the Camprite camper and when it rains on the canvas, I reckon its louder than the metal roof of the Rapid. But the bottom line is that neither have that great an advantage that I would even worry about it.

Cheers

Captain

PS. Unlikely that the Jayco owner has slept in a Rapid with heavy rain, sounds more like he has theorised this to justify it!

G/day Mick,
Like the others said, there is nothing to worry about at all as the end panel is insulated and no louder than any other part of the van. One big benefit of the Windsor is that if the rain is falling vertically, the canvas most times does not get wet any way, and if it does, when you fold it up the canvas is sandwiched between the metal ends and does not come into contact with anything else unlike the Jayco's design. The whole Windsor van for me has been brilliant and i've taken it to many radical places. Tough reliable and a great purchase.
Check out my vehicle and van specs.
Regards from Big Col

Then again the sound of rain on canvas is one of those lovely things that go with camping.

The smell of the earth, and the bush, the sound of the birds, and the possums as they try to open the fridge. The sound and smell of the rain as it comes through the bush and finally lands on your camp, followed by the smell of the evaporating water when the sun comes out after the rain has gone. All part of why I get out of town every chance I get.

If it didn't make a noise you might as well stay at home.

Just my 2c.
