When I Park my GQ patrol TD42 diesel down hill and leave it for a 1 hour plus it takes approx 7-10 seconds to being the oil pressure up. I use genuine nissan oil filters an shell super diesel. Oil and filters are changed every 5000 klm

On level ground or the vehicle facing backwards the pressure comes up 2-3 seconds (normal)

LL,

yes mine does that also, but generally the light goes out before 7-8 seconds when compared to the normal 2-3 seconds. I assumed it was due to the angle of the dangle, horizontal oil galleries within the motor maybe draining back to the sump therefore taking a longer time to re prime to operating pressure. I would think the oil pickup in the sump will be still well below oil surface level even on the steepest of hills.

Where the oil filters screw on to the block there are little ball bearing creatures which i assume are part of a one way valve/antidrain mechannism. Maybe this could be your problem..... some oil draining back through the filters but then one would assume this would happen all the time, not just on hills.

Anyone else have some ideas? ihave alwyas been puzzled by it but not enough to stress.

the ball brgs are bypass valves in case the filters block press. diff allows oil tobypass filter straight to eng.

LL,
mine does seem to do the same every now and then....
I recently fitted a VDO full scale oil pressure gauge as the factory (electric) one is nearly useless. As a result am now happy that my idle and at revs oil pressure is excellent. Haven't noticed the problem since... , but also don't park facing down hill very often.
Sorry not much help I know.

It would seem that the oil is going away from the pickup when downhill.... thus when facing the other way, it is covering the oil pickup, and only taking 2 seconds to get through. Half fill a glass with water, put a straw in it, tip it one way the straw is nearly out of the water, tip the cup the other way its got no change of getting air...

the oil senders do suck, $90 to replace from Nissan, but I did mine, no problems since. I also use Nissan filters.

DONT use COOPERS oil filters, takes 10+ seconds to get oil pressure on the gauge!!!

Same Same, I change oil every 5k and filters every 10k, oil pressure is dubious to say the least, the needle moves when driving along @ a constant speed just for the hell of it seems, spoke to Nissan and as others say they told me not to worry about it, "senders are not the best, as longs as it moves your right" was the answer I got. I checked my balls out in the filter assy and all appeared well there as well, thank goodness...... ho ho Keep the shiny side up
