Heefers
Morning all,
As the family will soon be outgrowing the Hilux, the missus and I have gone on the hunt for a new wagon. We've narrowed it down to either the ST Patrol (GU6 MY08 3.0 5 SPD) or the GX Prado. We are strongly leaning towards the Patrol as the standard feature list far exceeds the Prado's.
My questions to anyone who has recently purchased a Patrol is, apart from the wheel issue listed further down, have you had any dramas with the vehicle, do you wish that you had gotten any accessories added at purchase (apart from B/Bar, T/Bar, Reversing camera etc), and finally do you wish you had have bought a Prado instead, if so why?
Many thanks for any feedback provided.
Cheers,
Heefers

Of these two I'd pick the Patrol but AUTO not Manual

I prefer auto, having had both manual and auto.
There also seem to be more posts on the
forum with this sentiment "having changed to auto I'd never go back to manual" than this one "having changed to auto I've hated it so much I can't wait to go back to manual"
Autos are also
well suited to the charactereistics of the 3.0 litre diesel you are looking at.

Have you done an archive search for 3.0 litre Patrol and a few variances there off?
Just so your informed and aware of all the potential issues before spending your hard won dollars.

FYI - I am installing a 3.0 engine today as we speak after it did the usual, buring a hole in the top of a piston.

Cruiser, I was led to believe that the problems associated with the 3.0 had been rectified in the common rail version.(am I being bulls@*ted). What causes the problem in the first place?
Many thanks for your reply and the offer of your Prado but we are buying new.

Nissan stated they fixed them in 2002, then in 2003 and then in the series IV and now they state they are fixed in the Common Rail ones. All I can say is I am having less dramas with them but we get more than we should. I believe there is a design floor with the engines so who knows when and how they will fix it.

Cruiser,
You seem to have replaced a few 3-0's. About how many and has it been all models (2/3/4)? Have you replaced the same vehicle engine twice yet?

Well I would go the GX Prado,
Prado
more power 127kw/410nm (Patrol 118kw/380nm)
Prado 180lt tanks v Patrol 125lt
Prado GX cost $50220(w Air) v Patrol ST $52240 (RRP)
Prado 6 speed man v Patrol 5 speed man
I believe better fuel econ
Never heard or read any problems with the 3lt motors, could be wrong
Patrol
bigger towing Capacity 3200kg v 2500kg
and to show I'm not bias, I drive a Disco 2
