Has anybody here installed an intercooler fan?
If so, what switching method have you used, temp sensor, on/off in cabin switch, or just running all the time.
I was thinking that with a top mounted intercooler, when working hard in the bush at low speeds, it would tend to become a 'heat sink', & that a fan would help at these times.
Any comments?

My 2.8l diesel has a fan (about 5") mounted under the top mounted intercooler as standard.
Must be temp switched since it comes on whenever it is hot, and the engine has been pushed with ambient temp outside above 30 deg.
Go and see if you can find an intercooler from a 2.5 or 2.8 pajero at the wreckers, will have the whole set up ready to go.

I have a 9" fan which can be fitted very easily to my top mounted intercooler.
I am not sure of the best way to switch it, or what benefits I can expect.

Sometimes wonder about taking the fibreglass front edge off and making a new one with a bigger inlet, so it would scoop more air in.
Maybe putting manual override on the intercooler.
Definitely notice the difference in power between winter and summer. Even wet and dry weather gives a little difference.
Cooler air, denser air, more oxygen, more bang I suppose.

The other angle to go is a waterspray, will increase heat transfer out of sight, wash teh engine at the same time ;-))

That would be OK on the bitumen, but it would just create a mud bath under the bonnet with all the dust in the bush or the Outback.
