I had a old 6000 lb Ramsay low mount on my 60 series and then the 80 series until a bout 2 years ago.
Purchased it second hand off a fellow who had it mounted on a toyota coaster camper (it was old).
it was a very good winch which fortunately I only used a few times in anger. Although a 6000 lb unit was a bit on the small side fora large 4wd it did the job.
Always had option of snatch block but eventually upgraded to a 12000 lb winch when I started towing the camper trailer.
Sold the winch to a bloke with a suzuki and know he has used it successfully also.
Would recommend.
cheers
Howard

We bought an 8000lb Ramsey secondhand for our Troopy years ago. It has rarely been used in anger, though we do fire it up occasionally just to check that its still working. Used recently in the Simpson to recover another Toyota - no problems. Its big and heavy and does the job with mimimal maintenance.
Cheers,
John

Gaday Axel. We've had many of the heavy duty worm drive Ramsey's both PTO & electric at work. PTO are awesome & will pull all day. Electric are slow & steady but of all the ones we had, I don't remember one ever requiring a scrap of maintenance or repair over the time we had them other than a squirt of grease in the clutch.
I bought a Ramsey 9500 low mount Patriot for my 105 series & have found it to be perfect for my needs. In the last 6 1/2 years it's performed faultlessly normally only requiring single line pull with some assistance in 1st low. The clutch mechanism is like no other winch & actually disconnects the gearbox completly making it easy to pull the cable out unlike the Warns that seize up. Had no problems with solinoids at all over the time despite regular deep crossings & zero maintenance (which I should check one day ;-) The winch has a very reasonable unloaded drum speed minimising birdcaging from over run & ensures a quick pack up. The weight is not too bad over the front end compared to the 10 & 12K Warns.
Only two down sides I can see being a non standard bolt pattern for ARB bar work & the Price. Very expensive at the time compared to a Warn 9500lb HS.
I bought
mine after watching one haul 5 cars up a 300m
hill over a 5 hour period. Very impressive.
Cheers Craig..............
