With this election preamble we are having to endure, we diesel owners need to be smarter about the fuel prices we pay; especially as it seems to me to be 4 - 10 cents a litre dearer than ULP in
Adelaide metro (depending upon the time of week in the discount cycle.)
It is a
well known fact that diesel is a much cheaper product to refine.
Whilst in Greece & Turkey last month, the price of diesel was 8 - 12 Euro cents / new lira cheaper than ULP.
If it is good enough for BP / Shell /
Mobil over there in Europe to recognise that diesel is a cheaper product to produce, why are they gouging our wallets in Oz.
Does any one have any suggestions as we as diesel 4WD owners are not necessarily silvertails who can afford the extra?

I live on top of 400 years of brown coal... when diesel hits around $2.50, it will become viable to make it out of this coal....
Don't really know why I told you that... just been thinking about it lately.
I paid out $450 for fuel last week!!!
Up go the charges to customers....

In Australia, Diesel attracts a lot of tax. Blame the government :-))

yep no rebates unless you weigh more than 5 tonne, as I recall, too.

John, it's comon knowledge that diesel supply is dictated by demand in the rest of the world. At the moment Nthn hemisphere is heading into winter, the US
reserves are low so the world price/demand goes up. Not to mention the political unrst in northern Iraq with their dispute involving Turkey. With economic developements in countries like China and India and their never ending demand for diesel for transport, cooking and industry, there is NO hope that we in Australia will ever see cheap diesel prices. It just won't happen no matter what you think or what the Govt might or might not promise during the pre election period. For those in business there are advantages (GST rebates etc) so they can at least off-set some of the prime cost(s). Private motorists have no hope when it comes to a better deal. Get used to it that's how it will be for now and into the future. Sorry mate.

While diesel buyers are the minority, diesel will generally be dearer than petrol. Cut price petrol gets the attention and trade of many in bigger centres; not so much with diesel.
Where i live, diesel is 5 & 6 cents dearer than ULP today; a couple of weeks ago the difference was 10 cents. Just occasionally it is cheaper than ULP (usually the day after we've filled the fuel tanks!)

And then you go to Europe and there are more diesel cars than petrol. We are a joke.

Fuel is cheap in Aus............it's the tax on top of it that makes it expensive.

The problem is that the people with the political muscle - farmers and long-haul transport companies - get rebates on their fuel costs. That just leaves the mug punters like you and me to pay the high prices.

More so, we pay to much for the POOR quality, crudely refined diesoline that we are stuck with using in Australia.
