Hi everyone. I've just bought a 2005 Prado VX and in my excitement of purchasing it, didnt even think about where to put my
UHF radio (Uniden) that's in my current 2000 Prado (which is for sale out of interest). Does anyone have any wise words about where this could go? There's not obvious spots. Also, the new Prado owner's manual talks about being careful where to place the radio as it may interefere with other electronics - is this just Toyota safety speak or is there some need to be careful in where the UHF goes? Thanks all! Mark

See what your impatience did 3 of the same...lol, I hope your patience is better when looking for a good spot for the CB , you might have to install it 3 times ...,
Have you thought about a roof console, if there is room that is ,other than that you get rid of it and get a split system unit like the GME , you only have to find a location for the head piece.

DougT,
That is what my wife is always telling me.
"you only have to find a location for the head piece".

My UHF main unit is mounted on the firewall near the steering column - behind the plastic panel in front of the drivers left knee. The head unit is mounted beneath the ashtray.

When people decide where to place their CB controls, consider what happens when you have to check the Channel Number etc. while driving.
If the control is placed anywhere lower than the upper part of the dash, you will have no visibility of what's happening on the road in front of you.
A friend ruined his holiday by running in the rear of the other vehicle while near Kununnara - because he was looking down for a few seconds on a wide open road.

Hi Mark
I recently upgraded to a 2006 GXL Prado which I am very happy with so far, with the same situation as you. In my old Pajero, my GME TX4000 fitted perfectly under the main Radio unit.
There was no way that this size radio would fit in the new Prado, so looked around and found the perfect solution, a new GME TX3440. The main heart of the unit is mounted under the dash near the steering column, with all controls on the actual microphone, and it works like a charm, and all that you see is the microphone lead. I can recommend this unit as the perfect true out of the way
UHF Radio that is Australian made with a full 3 year warranty.
Cheers
Stephen

I had
mine in a department of interiors roof console. Made it easy to see as it was right in front of me. My console is for sale if you are interested as I am stripping my Prado down for sale. I will post a pic in my member gallery if I can remember how to do it so you can have a look.

hi - my model is the same as your older one so sorry BUT my sister in law told me she fitted hers in the glove box where there is a place for a street directory. they always had two in the car when using cb so position wasnt an issue re changing the channels etc as mentioned elsewhere. good luck
