Firstly, we have no affiliation with this product.
We have just returned from four days
camping out in Gippsland over Cup Weekend. As most would know by now, torrential rain hit the whole region. Our Black Wolf Turbo 240 stood up to it all with not a leak to be found. 48 hours of constant non stop rain and 129mm in 24 hours. There was a channel of
water running 3 inches deep under one side and out the other, our shoes in front floated off - the rain came down so hard and heavy so suddenly that we had no chance of seeing the 'river' coming. Digging deep trenches was no use, they got flooded out. We came out the other end of the rain with everything intact and no
water inside the tent.
It was the most constant heavy rain I have camped in and was stunned at how
well the tent held up - I will vouch for Black Wolf tents any day. I'm just annoyed that we didn't get photo's to show how
well it did - too busy inside the tent sitting (floating) high and dry.

They are good aren't they, we have owned the 300 and now we own the "300 lite plus" and its brilliant.
Camped out at Lake Eyre last yr in 80km + winds and we were the only tent to not rip zippers or anything else...all the other tents out there fell apart litterally!!
Havent camped in rain like you had but have done the wind.

I hope I am not hijacking the thread but I am interested in your thoughts of the Turbo 300 verses the turbo300 lite plus. I am looking at those two as
well as the turbo 300 lite
Was there anything that made you change from the turbo to the lite plus?
I would appreciate a little extra room and am considering the delux fly for the turbo 300, though I have heard that it is a real pain to set up and is expensive, or the Turbo lite, turbo lite plus.
I have a few questions if I may
Does the Lite plus take much ( or any) longer to set up / tear down than a standard turbo 300?
Is the extension part just a matter of a few pegs and another minute or so?
Are there any disadvantages that you se to the lite versions ( apart from no accessories). Eg are they as good in bad weather?
thanks in advance
The delux fly etc would give me some

Hi Boobook2,
I think the Lite is nylon instead of canvas. I have not heard much about the lite - although I did check it out in Anaconda last week and was surprised by how thick the material was (Black Wolf quality again).
We have the deluxe extension on our Turbo 240 but only take it for trips of two nights or more. It does take longer to set up but is actually easy - just a matter of getting your routine sorted. We can arrive at a
camp site and have the whole tent done in 10 mins tops - including the extension.

Baby number 3 made us change!!
Not much longer, maybe a couple of minutes, than the standard 300 but thats only because you have 3 poles that go together through a loop to hold the back section out. If the extra room isnt needed there are clips that they do up with so it turns out to be the saize of the 300 anyway...pegs - only a few more...
Packing up is no different either - the same fold it action then drop and roll....
The delux fly we dont have and cannt really comment but have heard people on here complaining about them, we dont have one purely because we dont stay in the one place long enough to warrent the need.
If you are going to spend $999 on the turbo 300 I would recommend the $899 on a turbo lite plus 300. It is made of light material but it is still very sturdy and extremely lighter. the 300 is about 25kg where the plus is about 18kg. Makes a huge difference when throwing it up on the roof!!
We had a slight amount of rain when we first used it and there was no problems. I am not worried about it leaking or falling apart or anything like that.....we were satisfied to the hills with the 300, cannt see ehy this one would let us down.
Hop this Helps Boobook2 !!

Thanks
Laura, I am definitely leaning to the Turbo Lite plus now. your comments about the wieght are spot on re getting on the roof.
Looks nice on your profile, infact the back looks bigger than on the Black Wolf website.
One more question, how is the back area configured? Ie is it a sererate bedroom, and if so is it possible to make the tent one area - with a bed across where the join is. Hope this makes sense.
I will go take a look at one now.
Thanks

The back area is big. We can fit the dbl swag and the porta cot plus there is still heaps of room.
It can be closed off by doing the zipper up in the middle of the "wall" that can be tied back.
And there you go - 2 rooms !!!!
We saw the 240 lite plus outside the
camping shop one sunday and stopped to have a look but I wasnt even pregnant then....then Jonty was born and we knew we had to get a new tent. Just happened to go into the
shop again just on the
lookout and there they had one, so they got one from out the back and home we went!
I dont have any photos of the inside for you though, sorry..

Hi Howdy
Certainly was a hell of a weekend for testing things out wasn't it.
Your tent obviously survived a lot better than the 3 dome tents of some of our visitors.
Another thing that made the domes difficult was that they were blown about into all shapes with occupants often having wet tent touching there faces. To be fair their tents only had the ground pegs in, but still shape distortion was excessive.
How did Black Wolf go in this respect ?

We were fortuante enough to be in a sheltered area so wind was not a problem. We have had the tent for a couple of years now and in the beginning camped in high winds (enough to give me a fright, I am not sure how fast they were) and the tent flapped round a lot but nothing broke or ripped. It even had the original plastic knuckles on it at the time (I believe they're all metal in the new ones) and we didn't have a problem. I've formed a bit of an attachment to this tent.
It does seem to have an abundance of ropes to secure it with which helps.

We havent had probs with the pegs either, in the winds at L E the tent moved of course but no where near the stage where we thought she'd cark it on us!!

I have also been looking at the Turbo 240 so was very interested in your comments. I took my wife to see the 240 but she seems to prefer the 300. Plan on useing it for a trip to the
Simpson Desert and surrounding areas next year. The 300 is substantially larger so where and how do you transport it and would it be better to get the 240 with extended fly as this fits in the back of Patrol or on roof rack side ways(I think )whereas the 300 only on roof and lengthwise
Thanks HK

Hi HK,
As there is only the two of us, the 240 is ample. When we travel it usually travels in the basket on the roof racks, occasionally it travels in the back of the hilux. We use two single self inflatable offroad mats (singles are so much easier to pack than a large double) which go up either side of the tent with enough room for our bags to go at the foot of the bed. This leaves a nice walkway up the middle.
We also have the extended fly which we take for longer trips. This travels in the same basket next to the tent. When it gets really rainy we put the side panels in - one side panel has a flap that can be opened out for 4WD acces, we use it to put our cooking table etc under which then leaves the front section free for chairs etc.
A couple of friends of ours have the 300, but they have kids and still have room in the tent after fitting their family in.
Both tents take the same amount of time to put up, the only real difference is the size you need to be comforatble in
camp and the space it takes when packed. I guess those two things can only be answered by you.
Goodluck and enjoy your trip. We have done Victoria to death now and are planning on doing a larger trip next year so we can venture into new areas.
