Has anyone had a problem getting repairs and service on the extended warrenties offerred by some of the major yards?

Much was made of the fact that we were getting the extra 12 months coverage at the time of purchase but little of the requirements re service.

Air Con has gone U/S so contacted dealer. Van is 18 months old Ring the insurance number. No will not cover because the van was not serviced by an approved service facility inside the first twelve months. Would the service have looked at the appliances? No. Van only with emphasis on running gear. Well then it seems we should have had the Air Con serviced by an approved A/c dealer. Is there a requirement for service by the manufacturer of the A/c? No. Just clean the fliters. So because we were on the road about the end of the 12 month period and had no problems we did not get the van serviced and therefore they walk away from everything.
Off the record I have been told that this is quite the common result and unless you have written confirmation that you have complied with every crossed T and dotted I of the contract you will get nothing.

So if you are taking the extended coverage. TAKE CARE and ensure that you read and comply with the details.

KevinJ ..... been down that path before and a chat with the Office of Fair Trading should sort them out. It's just a ploy to make you "go away".

When I bought a new Pajero the Dealer offered a FREE extended warranty.

What a joke ! One of the conditions was that you had to get it serviced by them every 5000km - Mitsubishi service inetrval is 15,000km !!!

That would be a VERY expensive "free" warranty.

Yep sucked in myself, cost me $1400 not worth a pinch of the proverbial. Could only claim if hit by flying pink elephants on the 31 of November.
Never again

I am still fighting with Nissan over my extended warranty that was under 100,000km even though I bought one I though would cover me to 150,000km. The Nissan diff is supposed to last well and used for competition but was regarded to be not "a manufacturing fault" so not covered. It is like oil, filters, belts - expendible!

John,

I was just thinking of you when reading the post. On ready your post I see you still have issues with your diff or more to the point Nissan. Hope all are well.

Had an extended warranty myself as a young fella new to vehicles etc and quickly learnt what a bitumen warranty was. Once again I'm sure there are plenty of others whom have had good experiences with extend warranties.

I'm just not one.

I hate having a warranty. If something goes wrong, the manufacturer/dealer look for a way to shift the blame back onto you. I'd rather be responsible for my own vehicle and keep all those extra $$$ in my pocket. The extended warranties are particularly bad as they lock you into getting 3 years of servicing by that particular dealer.

I was offered a scratch/paint/dent warranty on a car I bought last week. Only cost $1700...... :-))) And for that they would fix any dents up to a certain size, up to a certain number etc etc They also guaranteed that the white duco would be covered if it faded :-) Its about as useful as that rustproofing stuff they sell that clogs up the panels.
