G`Day all,,, Re a recent thread on this subject I stated that I would post the details on the fuel consumption on return from a planned trip. The total distance travelled was 2204.7 Klm and the trip consisted of a combination of approx third black top and the rest station tracks gravel and sand roads, and about 150k of 4 wheel drive tracks and beach sand. I was running 80% off road tyres 265/70R-16, a loaded roof rack, total fuel 100Ltr, 60 Ltr
water, 2 Engel fridges, tools recovery gear etc,2 spare
wheels, swags tent and all the other crap you need including 2 cartons beer and 8 ltr red wine, carton of Bundy UDLs for the misses. The following are the figures for the total of the trip and the way I have worked it out may be wrong as it is difficult to work the gas in with the fuel. On my rough calculations I am getting about 100Klm extra out of a
tank of diesel than before.Unfortunately I haven`t any accurate figures from previous trips to refer back to but any way here are the figures.
Total distance travelled 2204.7Klm Total Diesel 223.69Ltr
Total gas 33.37Ltr. My calculations are, diesel and gas combined,=11.6L/100K or 8.5Klm/Ltr. Diesel only=10.1L/100Klm
or 9.8Km/Ltr. Gas 1.5Ltr/100Klm The engine was on gas for the whole trip, with a noticeable increase in power, quieter engine noise and cooler engine temp (ambient temp about 35 C ). So there you have it, make with it what you will and hope it is some benefit to any considering going down that path.
Regards Nav.

Hi Nav, What gas system did you fit? The figures look good.

All I can tell you on that is, its a non computerized system. There is only about five components to the whole system plus the 40 Ltr
tank that fits under the vehicle. There is a micro switch on the accelerator pedal that triggers the system. A component I think is a regulator, a couple of solenoids and a device that fits between the air filter in the air intake that meters the gas into the system. The only alterations to any engine components is a T piece in the heater hose that delivers hot
water to the regulator. The crankcase breather hose is repositioned behind the gas input and the muffler is removed from the exhaust system to allow the fitting of the gas
tank.As you can see it is a very simple and non invasive system. At this point in time I am very happy with the set-up so far. We have a 20 foot Regal full van that weighs around 2.8 ton loaded but as yet have not towed it since the gas was fitted. When I get to tow that it will give me a more precise comparison as I have kept a lot of figures on the fuel consumption towing. Sorry I cant give you any more info on the type of system as I don`t have that info....Regards Nav.

My calculations that works out to 11.66 l/100 km.
Did you work out your economy prior to gas

Unfortunately I do not have any accurate figures other than when I was towing. However I reckon I was getting around 500-550 Klm out of a
tank general driving around. The fuel consumption above is off highway with a loaded roof rack and a fair load on board. Nav.

Has anybody considered the long term effects of gas on these 3.0TD Nissan motors ..?
Good or bad ?
What will burn out in 100,000 km ,,,,???
Thats why I did not do the Navara.
Still cannot get my Navara to give more than 9.5-9.8 km /lt, driven at 100 km/hr,,
Only exception is going up the Hume to visit mates in Albury,, Spinning at just under 3000 revs I get 10.5km/lt, and thats about 112 km/hr.
Any tips would be greatly appreciated.
Have
snorkel, opened exhaust to 2.5" from tail pipe.
Use Chemtec Additive
Put it on the Dyno and they said nothing no fix ! and can only look for the obvious.. So only charged $100. That was last June..
Nothing has changed since. But love the vehicle ,tough as, shame about the ride.
Cheers All Bucky

G`Day Bucky,,The answer to your question above is yes I have. I am a retired diesel mechanic who specialized in engine rebuilding and fuel injection, so even though the diesel gas is new technology I understand the basics of how it works. The small amount of gas introduced into the air intake simply helps improve the burn of the diesel fuel from around 90% to 99%.This results in the extra power and lower emissions and is why we get the rebate from the government.Contrary to sum believes it actually lowers combustion temperature and lowers the oil pollution as
well. I am
well aware of the problems with the 3Ltr engine but to my knowledge there has not been an engine problem with the Navara. IMO the gas should have no bad effect on any diesel engine if anything it should prolong the life of the engine. All the buses in
Perth have been on gas for some time now with no ill affect and there a lot of trucking company's going down that path also. Regards Nav.
