Can somebody explain to me why the shape of a 4.5Kg gas bottle is not standardized?

Add to that, fittings and sales staff who have no idea what their talking about.

I've got to the point, whereby I add 100% to the cost of the products I purchase to allow for fuel, wear and tear on the car when I have to return a item.

Then again it might be my fault.....

I've already been there.... That's why the garage is filled up with Boat Anchors!

The value of this site is asking other members about their real life experiince with products and services. Derek, for example gave me some very good advice recently.

It seems that most retailers don't impart any product training at all.

The exception to this is Bunnings, whereby they focus on employing people who have significant product knowledge.

Sure there are some others out there doing the same, but it's becoming bloody frustrating.

I went into Hardly normals the other month and asked them if they sold GPS recievers for laptops ( i was in the navigation section of harvey normans ) The guy gives me a blank look and tells me there is no such thing and i would have to buy a stand alone unit ......

next question -- does it take topo maps -- his reply ... Um don't know ......

at that point i said never mind ---- took a drive to Strathfield car radio , bought the GPS receiver ( and usb bluetooth dongle )

Needless to say i wont bother going to any of those franchised stores any more

Because that is just the way it is.

Another example is tools (spanners) Whitworth, SAE, Metric, ASF etc etc, etc

Engineering threads are a nightmare not worth mentioning.

Either deal with it, get over it or end up taking the 'pills' (LOL)

Enjoy life's vagaries, because thats what makes it go around.

I didn't realise it was an issue about the gas bottles? I have two the same size and don't really care what the shapes of other ones are, as I won't be using them.

I agree Wayne, I had to enlarge it as well, ended up sitting there looking at it for about 5 min (well maybe 2).
What sort of camera did you use Barnesy, anything special.

I'm glad people enjoy seeing my photo. I have just downloaded another pic of that same spring but using a different setting on the camera, it is more of an action shot.

I only purchased this camera s/hand about 6 months ago. It is a Canon eos 300d, digital SLR. Good quality, base model SLR. Only 6.5 magepixels but takes better photos than some 10mp cameras I've seen.

You want sales staff that know what they are talking about ? As soon as retail can find a way to eliminate the human from the checkout function, customers will be all we can find in shops - we'll have to help each other !

Head to Big W at Elizabeth..

They have operator-less checkouts (seriously, they are/were trialling them)

There is an operator to "assist" if you go through the 4 checkouts she watches. Then there are the normal ones. I have used it once for the experience, easy enough but will now only use the staffed checkouts even if it means a longer wait as this is just another way of cutting costs.

(even when you think about the possible added "shrinkage" (theft) although there are security measures in place, each operator you can cull probably saves $30k a year

Getting back to gas cylinders :o).

I think there are 4kg (233mm dia) and 4.5kg gas cylinders.

Thought I had better add a little more explanation.
The 4.5kg is a little like a 9kg in a stubby version.
The 4.0kg is like an extended 3kg bottle.
Different diameters.

So which do you have?

Thing is that unless you carry a tape measure with you all the time the 4kg and 4.5kg are pretty hard to tell apart , had the problem at a "swap and go " so never again will use them , best is to have your own bottles refilled , Matilda sevos on nth side of Bris doing 9kg bottles for$15.95 and 4.5kg for $8.00 , lots cheaper than the swapers.

Must say I didn't realise there were different sizes of the same capacity too. I have a couple of 4.5kg and a 2kg (?) not sure now, haven't used it for a while but I always get mine filled rather than the swap setup, just personal preference, but all were bought from the same place over a few years so guessing they are all the same brand (Kookuburra??)

John C

You hit the nail on the head. The one I have at home is a 4kg bottle, whilst the one I purchased is 4.5Kg. The latter is a smaller diameter, which explains why I can't fully fasten it in the second cradle on the CT.

As I said in my opening post "probably all my fault". Dum Dum me!

Many thanks for the help.

Regards

Kim
