Chasing a electrical prob in the rear end of the defender, (Landrovers!!), and the towbar had to come off, ten bolts holding it on, very solid setup. But i still can't get used to that little 12mm pin which is supposed to have about a 12t shear rating, that holds the drawbar, it dosen't look right and probably isn't. Think i'll upgrade the safety chains.

Cheers Axle.

Being brought up in the building trade, a 3" nail has a shear weight of 1 Ton, so that should give you some idea.

MMMMMM!, so if i loose my pin, i can use a 3in nail to get out of trouble providing i don't pull in excess of 1ton....:))))))).

If you are using WDH you don't need the pin at all. HR used to demonstrate this - they would remove the pin, drive around in some figure 8s and they would replace the pin without having to shift anything. I have seen friends vans arrive at some rallies with no pin - they had been interrupted when hitching up at home and forgotten to complete the replacement of the head before hitching up.

At the shear point yes you could but not holding each end and pulling in the middle.
