Hi all,
This may seem like a silly question but... I have just got hold of a second hand Rhino roof basket to go on the aero style roof bars of the Pajero. It comes with the angled u-bolts to suit, but which way is best to mount the bolts through the mesh? Most pics show screws on the top in the cargo area of the basket, ready to rip up tents etc. Whereas, when upside down, the bolt bottom of the "U" fits the mesh
grid nicely and the screws/plate would be on the bottom with no intrusion into the basket area, although the plate is not snug around the roof bar.
If you've got a basket, how do you mount it?
Thanks,
Rob.

The theory seems to be that with the nuts on top they are not going to work loose and fall off. However, I have been putting
mine underneath for 7 years and never lost one. Nor have I torn the tent or damaged anything else in the basket. I just make a habit of walking around and nipping them up, if required, every morning, and more often if in corrugations or rough terrain. BTW I have actually broken a couple of them over the years, the plastic grips can crack and become useless. Consequently I always carry a couple of spares. It also pays to check the tension on the allen screws holding the feet in place every now and again.

Hi All
Have you tried heavy duty stainless steel hose clamps, they worked on one of
mine , a few years ago, you can get various sizes, and you can double up on each corner for security.
Cheers

Hi Rob,
Ok to mount them down and just wind some electrical tape around the two "nuts" or tighteners. That way they will never work their way loose and you don't have to over-tighten them.

Rob,
I found the original fasteners to anchor the rhino basket to the bars useless as one gave up the ghost on a shakedown outing into Abercrombie NP.
I replaced them with normal U bolts with the bolts down and a nut and lock nut on each.
It hasn't missed a beat since including the Simpson,
Cape York and the Tanami.

Thanks for the replies, I finally mounted it on the rails and found there was little choice, the screws had to point upwards. The fixed roof bars are at the extreme ends of the basket and the mesh wires don't line up for the "U" to sit properly upside down.
