Would a Modified Exhaust system i.e 63.5mm cause an older engine to burn more oil due to less back pressure.
I don't ask many questions here but this is one that has had me thinking for many years.

Just giving your answer some more thought , I guess your right if the muffler was the same, what about a straight through system ...No pressure .

G`Day Doug,, Yes mate, qualified mechanic now retired ,30 years in the trade. The exhaust system will have no affect on oil consumption whether it has a muffler or is straight through. Some engines in particular two strokes do rely on back pressure to operate efficiently. Four stroke engines generaly breath better with a larger or less restricted exhaust system and increases what is termed in the trade as (volumetric efficiency). In simple terms that means by reducing friction or resistance and allowing as much air/fuel into the cylinder as possible for a petrol and as much air as possible for a diesel. The only thing that will cause oil burn is engine wear,eg worn rings/bore or glazing of the cylinder walls but glazing is mainly related to stationary diesel engines. Hope this has answered your question. Regards Nav.

Doug, Might be time for some FTC Decarboniser via www.costeffective.com.au.
I use it and it works, run some for 4 tanks or if you have any questions contact the team there. (I'm not trying to sell it, just a possible recommendation)

Some of the benefits:

FTC Decarbonizer: Especially for engines that don't work hard enough for long enough (eg excess idling, light loads, short runs and cool running).
FTC improves emissions, oil control and compression by removing cylinder glaze and top ring carbon. It removes carbon from combustion and exhaust spaces, letting the engine breathe better. It removes carbon from turbochargers, allowing full turbo speed and air delivery.

FTC is particularly suitable for boats, underground mining equipment, crane trucks, street sweepers, concrete trucks, site tippers, loaders, excavators, etc. FTC also produces a faster

"FTC also produces a faster --------mousetrap!

sounds like everything is faster, should be flogging it to QANTAS, wouldnt need the A380's if they just put it in the 747 tanks!

A faster Burn..!

All jokes aside I reckon the FTC Decarboniser is a great product but I wouldn't be selling it to Qantas. Now Diesel powered Jets... thats another thing..!

Doug,
if it is blowing blue smoke? jam a cork up the exhaust and that will stop it.

Hope this will solve your pollution woes.

Hi ya Doug (and Dusty) where are you? Or should I say, are we there yet? Your question is too difficult because I'm a girl so I'm really just saying Hi. Poured the concrete for the footings this a.m. and they will start the frame tomorrow - yahoo. Got a new culvert too so you just drive straight up towards the big roller doors now.
