Hi
My dad has just bought a caravan, about 15 years old. It didn't come with a jack, what sort would be the best? Van is about 17 foot.
Thanks Lyndon

Lyndon, from most auto retailers you can get a good quality bottle jack. You can find the caraven GVM on the complience plate to ascertain what size you need.
Having a guess its a tandem axle so divide the GVM by 4 and then leave a safety margin and you should be fine.
Just make sure there is a good, stable and flat lifting surface under the axle/wheel station.
What type of vehicle does he have? Ie is the vehicle one satisfactory at lifting...GVM of vehicle/4 and how does this compare to trailer. Would not go there is its a scissor jack but a factory bottle....
All the best
Matt.

Also make sure it fits under the vehicle when the tyres are flat!

You may need two jacks as some caravan
wheels go up inside the guards when lifting and then you can't remove the
wheels, so you may have to lift the chassis as
well
