I have a ramsey winch that is squealing when it is under load.
Is there someone in the northern suburbs of melbourne who could look or possibly service the winch.
thanks

Tim, I rebuilt my own warn a while ago, but when I was looking into it, I got a quote from a group in Thomastown. I think was about $100-150 depending on the problem. These guys specialise in rebuilding them. I don't know their name, but was put onto them by Jim Kennedy at SafeTrek 4wd in Coburg. 03 8800 2004. Give him a call and tell him you are after that winch rebuilding mob in Thomastown.

I don't know about the Ramsey, but I found the warn easy to pull apart and grease up. I took the motor to an auto electician in Sunshine and that cost $80 for a rebuild and that was with a lot of mud in the motor that had been sitting there for a while. The motor wasn't working when I took it in. Also while I was there, I removed the control box and opened it up. It was full of mud, so a heavy dose of WD40 and it was good as new too. I got the warn rebuild ideas from here:

warn xd9000 teardown and rebuild

Careful pulling the winch out as they are HEAVY. Take all the cable off first if you can, that lightens it up a bit. Stupidly did it all by myself and almost copped it in the head when putting it back in, lying on my back and balancing the winch on my knee while trying to get the bolt in the front of the bar.

Hope this helps.Cheers,
Wazza
