Did a search and looked at the rest of the site, couldn't find anything recent. Has anybody done the river lately, Which side of the river is best for both road condition and scenery etc. I'll be towing a caravan and not in any hurry.
Thanks, Geoff

Went that way a couple of weeks ago ref post 51253
Smooth gravel road up to
Tilpa on west of Darling. From
Tilpa on east of river road good but watch out for little dips and shonky cattle grids. Not many
places to get down to the river unless you ask for property owners permission
Cheers

You can get down to the river and even
camp on the western side of the bridge at
Louth if you are wanting a casual trip.
It is mind bogling to think there used to be enough
water in it for large barges and ships to just have a plank over to the bank.

We went from
wilcannia to
louth a few weeks ago on the eastern side and the roads were good no problems if you are towing.don't know what the road on the west is like.I dont think that the scenery will be a much different on either side.Alot of low flood plain(in wet) very smooth going then going to slight rise of gravel then back to flood plain type road. Most of the road is back from the river, you just follow the tree line off to your side.We stopped at a good
camp spot on the bend of the river i think it was wilga.

There was about 6" of
water flowing over the
Bourke Weir mid October.

My parents towed an old van with a fairlane up the west side of the Darling last year. Good
camping spots, road a bit rough, lots of dust.
Cheers
